Author Contends
SEATTLE, Wash., June 81—OI.R)
—Col. W. B. Oreeiey, tiiagulshed
forester and soldier, contends there
never will be a timber famine In
America.
In his book, "Forests and Men,”
published by Doublrday. Oreeiey
tells the story of the 50-year
struggle of such men as President
Theodore Roosevelt. Olllford Pln-
chot and others to bring order and
frugality Into the harvesting and
management of the nation’s forests.
Greeley himself broke with Pln-
chot, late chief of the U. S. For-
est service, over the Issue of fed-
eral control of all forests In the
nation.
Greeley Is modest about his own
vest Influence on private and pub-
lic forest landowners during the
last quarter century In promoting
tree farming.
“Forests and Men” Is more than
a history of this country's accept-
ance of forestry during the last
50 years; It Is the story of the
evangelical work of Greeley from
bov forester to the dean of his
profession.
The book Is packed with anec-
dotes, incidents and stories of
lumberjacks, foresters, rangers and
other interesting persons with
whom Greeley has come In contact.

THAT 38TH PARALLEL AGAIN—The same 38th parallel that
divide! Korea comes close to marking the boundary of the aecond
"hottest” frontier between communism and the free world. The
boundary between troubled Iran and troublesome Russia lies just
north of the 38th on the western tide of the Caspian Sea, and
juat south of the 38th on the eastern side. Should the Russians
move in to the Azerbaijan province of Iran, It would be another
case of aggression across the 38th parallel.
