Patriotism like charity, should be-
gin at home. Unless one loves his
town he is not likely to love his
country. His love for bis town can
only be shown by acts of devotion in
the upbuilding of the community. No
city can hope for great prosperity un-
less its citizenship is strongly im-
bued with the spirit of "Home Polks
IFlirBL" Thi* means patronizing to
the utmost home institutions, home
talent, home labor, home manufac- j
tures. home merchants.
There be those who may question
the moral, or civic, obligation resting
upon them to "buy it at home." One
may think that if he works faithfully
for a wage or salary, the money is his.
to spend wherever he chooses. Sal-
aried people, more than others are
likely to tkke such a view; are likely
to ignore the fact that there is no
such thing as absolute independence |
in the intricate economy of a civilized
world.
Take, as an illustration, our teach
ers in the city schools, who are for
the most part lady teachers. These
ladies, numbering over three score, are j
paid many thousands of dollars in j-
salaries in the course of a year. This
money comes from all the taxpayers
Oif this city. Many of those taxpayers
have had to work hard and scrape
hard to pay their quota of the taxes.
The value of those taxpayers' prop
erty and their businesses is depend
ent upon Ihe prosperity of the town.

thought, influence others to the same thought and there-
by save lives.
SAFETY FIRST—THINK, that personal cleanliness is
Ihe best way to avoid disease and illness.
SAFETY' FIRST—THINK, that when you perform any
net that yon know to be unsanitary or dangerous you are
endangering the health and lives of others.
SAFETY! FIRST—THINK, if you have an infectious ill-

you would have others protect you.
SAFETY FIRST—THINK, when you see a condition or
an act that endangers the health or life of yourself or
another to do what you can to stop it or report to the
proper authorities who will stop it.
SAFETY FIRST—THINK, when you use a lavatory,
"Have I exercised my small share of effort in keeping
the place clean?" And by making the effort, help pre-
sent the creation of a breeding place far disease.
SAFETY FIRST—THINK, when you use a public drink-
ing cup or glass, "Whose lips were touching it last?"
And if you have no drinking cup of your own (and every-

SAFETY FIRST—THINK, when you spit on a floor or
