Petition* i.ilon.
Petitions galore are coming
fiom Oklahoma. They in in spots
here and thpre, and spread. The
lines of activity by legislative pro-
moters can be traced pretty accu-
rately from the mail which senators
and representatives r- five from day
to day. Some few weeks ago peti-
tions began coming in from the
southwest relative to the closing of
I the Panama expoti ion on Sunday.
That kind of petition was an old
friend to those who hark back to
previous expositions and remember
what fierce battles were fought over
that question. There is not a mail
that does not bring some petitions to
Ihe national representatives.
The socialists are just now flood-
ing the mails of their congressmin
lth protests against the closing of
'he mails to a paper called th*
| .Menace. People In Oklahoma are in-
terested in many matters of legis-
lation before congress. They do 1
little petitioning now and then on
1 heir own account, chiefly pertain-
I ing to Indian legislation.
Hork for Postmasters.
A representative from" one of the
northwestern states seem to feel that
nil the troubles of the nation will be
over If flio jobless have sufficient
chance to learn about the demand
for their services. For this reason
he has introduced a bill which,
passed, will make every postmaster
an employment agency. This would
mean a lot of work for the post-
masters. Considering the salaries
paid to most of the postmasters in
small country towns, it is at least
doubtful whether there will be any
! pre-fervid demand from the average
postmaster for th. success of the
| bill. As a matter of actual experi-
ence, the trouble is not that the un-
employed can not find Jobs, but
rather that they will not take the
i.jbs when they are offered. This M
