On Tuesday evening Mrs. Hugh
Cowan entertained a number of her
friends with a line party at the
Roof Garden in compliment to her
guest, Mrs. Wade Cowan, of Fort
Worth, Tex. After the show the
guests repaired to the Shawnee
Drag Store where delicious ices and
cakee were served.
Those present were: Mesdames
Eakins, Ford, Dose, Relly, O'Dell,
Thomas. Crowder, Cunyus, Alby,
Ingham, Vinson, Nunn, Adams of
Durant, and Misses Parr and Watts
of Oklahoma City.
Picnic at Benson Park.
A most enjoyable event of the
week was a picnic party given at
Benson Park in honor of Mrs.
Adams of Durant, and Mrs. Cowan
of Fort Worth. A number of the
party enjoyed the plunge, and ' at
seven o'clock a tempting luncheon
was spread. Those enjoying the
outing were the guests of honor,
Mrs Joe Lou Adams, of Durant;
Mrs. Wade Cawon and daughter,
Helen, of Fort Worth; Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh Cowan, Mr. and Mrs. F. H.
Relly, Mr. and Mrs. Alby, Mr. and
Mrs. Vinson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Nunn, Mr and Mrs. Eakins, Dr.
Tayman, Misses MarieO Eakins,
Louise Adams, Kaite Watts and Parr
of Oklahoma City.

I'nited Daughters of Confederacy.
The Shawnee Chapter, No. 1443,
met in regular session Monday af-
ternoon at the home of Miss Ora
Maxey on North Park street, Mrs.
Cunyus presiding. Twenty-five
members answered to roll call.
Several Important matters of bus-
iness was brought before the or-
ganization. The committee from the
veterans' camp, composed of Col.
Sparks, Capt. Myers and Mr. Por-
ter, reported <1 picnic to be given
on the 21st at Benson Park. The
Daughters were cordially invited to
attend. Other minor matters were
discussed, then the regular pro-
gram was taken up. Miss Mabel
Pratt gave two delightful readings
exemplifying the fact that "True
art is to conceal art." Mrs. Hunt
read the old settlers' story in her
most pleasing and graceful style,
while Mrs. Sears read two appro-
priate poems relating to the south.
Miss Tate, an accomplished musi-
cian of Virginia, &ave several beau-
tiful piano numbers
The program closed with an ad-
dress from MrB. Joe Lou Adams,
who for a number of years was
historian of the U. D. C. Mrs.
Adams' address was highly appre-
ciated on account of the historical
data given. She is always a wel-
come guest to the U. D. C.
Refreshments consisting of brick
Ice cream and delicious cake were
served by Miss Maxely to the
Daughters and the following guests,
Mrs. Cowan of Fort Worth, MisB
Tate of Roanoke, Va., Miss Watts
of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Adams
of Durant, Okla.
Punch was served during the en-
tire afternoon. Notwithstanding the
heat the ladies voted this meeting
the most successful one In many
months.

Miss Bowles Entertained.
Miss Willie Rene Bowles of 642
N. Broadway entertained her Juven-
ile music class at her home Monday
afternoon, and a very Interesting
program was rendered, after which
dainty refreshments were served.
The following were present: Misses
Lucille Daniels, Pauline Rollow,
Ina Leslie, Gladys Kline, Violet
fcsllck, Maud Bowles, Ruth Eslick,
Hazel Rollow and Ells Roland.

Mrs. W. Gpuld Brokaw, who was
one of the most beautiful women
in New York City and whose do-
mestic troubles havo been aired in
the courts for several years, has at
last won a divorce from her hus-
band. That is, a referee who heard
the case has recommended to the
court that she be granted a decree.
And the recommendation is so
strong that there is little doubt
the court will indorse it.
