High Costs Cited
This building also could be lo-
ated in the same half block, fac-
lg the junior highschool.
Fogg said that due to mounting
osts in construction of ail kinds,
pproximately $15,000 more than
le school district has on hand for
nstruction purposes will be rc-
uired to finish the Hillcrest school
nit. The shortage, he said, is due
'holly to increased costs of con-
duction that outran money avail-
ble in the school’s building fund.
Other major items of impor-
ance included in the bond issue
roposal are 248 window replace-
nents in the highschool; renova-
ion or replacement of battered in-
rior woodwork in the highschool
uilding, and renovation of the
ighschool’s plumbing and rest
>ms.
Other Work Listed
Also in the plans are extensive
ainting and water-proofing of
iuilding exteriors throughout the
chool system, installation of a
icating system in the Webster
chool auditorium, replacing of gas
team radiation; repair of the Etta
)ale junior highschool front wail
nd coping, where cracks devel-
ped following earthquake damage.
“In addition the program calls
or completion of storage facili-
tes in the Irving school basement;
e n e r a 1 roof re conditioning
throughout the system as needed;
mproved public address systems
n both the highschool and junior
ighschool buildings; purchase of
■eplacement parts for seating in
highschool auditorium, and re-
acement of defective Venetian
Jind installations at Webster and
ncoln elementary schools.

The school board president said
‘it is generally felt by the board
if education that this construction
nd repair program is necessary
;o provide proper educational fa-
ilities for students who wish more
anual and vocational training.
"It is also felt,” he said, “that
he bands have been compelled to
fork under a handicap and that
ey merit adequate quarters in
hieh to operate.”
Fogg said the board believes
hat the present highschool build-
ng, however, will continue to
erve the community for an indefi-
itc period and that “it must be
reserved against deterioration
nd kept orderly and attractive.”
