HE TEAMS.
The Baseball season will open in
Shawnee, Sunday April 13, with the
S. und S team of Oklahoma City as
the opponents of the local club.
This team held the Omaha club
of the Western League to a seven-
nothing score and is conceded to
be one of the fastest Independent
teams In the state.
The prospects for a good fast
team in Shawnee Is better this
spring than ever before in the his
lory of amateur baseball.
While in previous years It has
been almost Impossible to get out
sufficient material from which to
mold a teain, there is no such
trouble now. Instead there is a
surplus of good men ai'd it is going
to be a difficult job to pick the
regulars. Good hitters will be given
the preferaee even though sacri-
ficing the fielding strength of the
club.
Five of last years team are back
in line and In the few practice ses-
sions have shown well.
The club has the following men
from which to make a winner:
Templeton, pitcher; Brooks, third
base; C. Sparks second base; D. 1'.
Sparks, first base, and Watson left
field. These men were with the club
last year.
Of the new men, Wheeler Is a
catcher, with a good throwing arm
and hits the ball hard. Eichenberger
short stop, lias shown some clean
fielding and looks good. Price the
high school's star out fielder is a
fast little man. Sales and Manush
were with the Rock Island team
last season and have reputations
of being hard bitting out fielders,
■ydick is a slugger and capable of
playing either the in or the out
field and Bhould be a valuable man
In Fonvielle It is expected that the
club will have one of the best right
handed pitchers In the amateur
ranks. This big fellow has a world
of speed, and good control of a fast
breaking "spitter".
