to third reading without reference
to committee a bill appropriating
$1,500,000 for general relief and
another providing $150,000 for free
textbooks.
Meanwhile, the Phillips and
Daniel factions in the house reach-
ed a definite showdown after
James C. Nance, floor leader, crit-
icized as "false" a story appearing
in a newspaper yesterday relating
to house employment of extra help.
Nance and H. Tom Right Rog-
