Ihe Nell O'Brien American Min-
strels, now on its first tour, and
which comes here with the endorse-
ment of many cities which has put
its stamp ot approval upon nbout
erything connected with 'lie en-
tertainment Personally, O'Brien
njoys an extensive and very pop-
ilar reputation both as a comedian,
as a writer of in gro character
sketches und as a producer of min-
strel ucts Now tha he lias left
Lew Docksiader after several years
as the leading feature of that or-
ganization and heads his own com-
. any, he has followed up many new
and novel ideas in minstrel produc-
tion, which have apparently met
with spontaneous approval. No one
would seem better equipped than
Nell O'Brien to head a new min-
strel organization For years he
has been a recognized leader in
this particular field of theatrical
tndeavor and his intensely humor-
ous character sketches of negro
life have been laughed at and ap-
preciated the world over. As a
black-face comedian he has no peer,
lor his work has always been in-
telligent, original and above all.
never coarse or unreal He Ima t>
perfect understanding of the negrc
character which has made him one
of the classics of the age in his
particular line. For his new enter-
tainment Mr. O'Brien has written
two one act sketches which are
said to he gems in their way. One
is called "Following the Flag," de-
t-crlbed as a travesty on the military
service in the Philippines in which
n colored regiment gets itself into
all kinds of complications. Mr.
O'Urten plays the role of a coloreq
general and Is assisted by twelve |
ether characters. The other sketch
is widely different In character and
is called "A Touch of Nature." I:
Is a very original minstrel act, la I
vhlch the sfones and times of oe.r
forefathers are vividly recalled In
song and character Impersonations
It is a rapid transit plcturc from
the old days to the present. Mr.
O'Brien's company numbers ovei
fifty people and Includes quite a
brilliant array of minstrel talent.
