WASHINGTON. Jan. 8 (UP)- The
White House has a new fire alarm
box, painted in familiar gaudy red
and bearing the number 1134. The
White house always Ims had a fire
alarm box on the Inside but the
new one is located on a standard
Just outside the executive offices.
The box was pul m n„t because
ol any increlfted fire hazard but
n.s part of the general fix-up cam-
paign ihut went with the remodel-
ling of the executive offices.
However, the White House is one
of the best guarded buildings again-
st fire in the country. One pull on
the new alarm box automatically
brings 10 pieces of [ire apparatus
to i he sreno.
There was n little sawdust fire
out in the White House yard last
summer and someone put in the
alarm. The whole 10 engines rush-
ed lo the scene to find the little
blaze already put out by a garden
base.
Even so the White House has
suffered from one serious fire in
recent years On Christmas night
in 1929 the attic and roof of the

Mikesell gave a birthday party for
her little daughter, Phoebe. Jane,
Friday afternoon. After their games
were finished they were served
dainty refreshments. Table decora-
tions were of pink and white and
favors were little dolls.
Those present were Mirrile Ton-
kinson, Bobby Ray Dickson, Dor-
othy Lee Kenney, Barbara Clark.
