worth an opening bid of 2; West, 4-
(.Tubs, being unable to support spades
or show another suit, and preferring
to show a reasonably good minor
suit than to shift to 3-No Trumps;
East. 4-Hearts. L'p to that moment
West had not known whether his
partner held spades and clubs, or
spades and hearts. Of course West
passed.
The opening lead was the K of dia-
monds, followed by the Ace. list
ruffed. The third trick "as taken
with declarer’s K of hearts, the next
by dummy's Q of hearts, then finding
that trumps did not full in 2 leads,
the declarer's Ace won the fifth trick.
East led his only club, and South's
Ace won. South led a diamond. The
declarer discarded dummy's lowest
dub. and ruffed with his last trump.
Two spade tricks were won with de-
clarer's Ace and K. Dummy's last
heart ruffed a third round of apades.
Dummy’s K. Q and J won the last
3 tricks of the hand, giving the de-
daring side 5-odd, or one trick more
than called for by the contract.
To further Illustrate proper pro-
cedure by second bidder, suppose he
holds one of the 3 hands- shown be-
low, and has bid 1.Spade over op-
ponent's 1-Heart. In answer ts
fourth hand's tores of t-Cluba, sec-
