In Horse-Buggy Day
TOLEDO, <U.R)—An account book
of the Whig committee, recently
brought to light, reveals to what ef-
lort Toledo's "Rough and Ready
club" went In Its determination to
elect Zachary Taylor president In
1848.
So frequently did members rent
horses and buggies for campaign
trips, that their victory cost the
club $65. The account book reveals
that this sum was quickly sub-
scribed, however, in the first two
years of the Taylor-Filmore admin-
istration.
The account book belongs to Frank
Segur of Toledo, whose grand-
father, Dan Segur, was secretary
of the Whig committee here.

DARIS, July 9—(U.R)—Considering
* the rather limited field, it is
remarkable that bathing suit man-
ufacturers can evolve many diff-
erent changes in style.
The most practical ones shown
in Paris, this season, are hand
knitted one-piece suits without
backs and with the front of the
suit supported by a narrow halter
neck collar. The little skirts, which
used to characterize women's suits,
are missing, and the new suits
are made as short as possible to
assure the most possible comfort In
the water and the greatest ex-
posure of skin for tanning on the
beach.
Great variety is shown as far
as the pattern and weave in the
woolen or hand-knitted suits.
Diamond designs, stars, fancy
ribbing in stripes and various
floral patterns in different colors
are all knitted into the new suits.
One house shows a navy blue
ribbed suit with the French tri-
color shield applied in red, white
and blue on the front of the
suit. The navy blue belt has a
white buckle and the beach coat is
of navy blue cloque pique printed
In white sea shells.
Even velvet and taffeta are used
These fragile materials have been
