Special to News-Herald.
Pawhuska, Okla., Jan. 22.—The
Osages Wednesday turned down the
scheme to lease their lands to the
Uncle Sam Oil company and by a
practically unanimous vote sustained
the position of Secretary Fisher of
the interior department and Presi-
dent Taft.
There had been some talk of op-
position to Fred Lookout for princi-
pal chief but when the Uncle Sam
advocates found that a vast ma-
jority of the full-bloods were for the
ticket they laid down and did not
even make a pretense of a light.
The election was as quiet ami#
peaceful as a Quaker prayer meet-
ing. The full-bloods, wrapped in
their blankets, with their turbans
on, solemnly handed the judges their
ballots, and as solemnly walked out
again, some of them not even mak-
ing a sound. And it wap remark
able that nine out of ten of the
votes cast weer put in the box by
the full-bloods, some of them com-
ing long distances for the purpose
of demonstrating their confidence in
the policy of the government.
The result marks the end of the
fforts of the Uncle Sam Oil com-
pany to handle members of the coun-
cil. Every one of the members elect-
ed Is a progressive and is commit-
ted to the policy of leasing the
lands of the tribe in small tract3

(NOTE—Tecumseh objected to the amount of these bills in the list formerly sent out. We nave therefore taken
the trouble to check this list and have it verified by the chairman of the Board of County Commissioners for 1912.
We find, after throwing out all the items Tecumseh objected to, and adding the items which should have been
added that amount totals $8,441.61, instead of $8,131.48 as given by the former statement.)
