THE WATER PRESSURE.
There have been many statements
made on the streets in regard to
the water pressure during the fire
Thursday. The automatic record at
I he water office shows the pressure
there to have been from 75 to 90
pounds from 1:30 o'clock until C
o clock,—which is as great a pres-
sure as the mains will stand without
blowing up, the pressure at the
pumping station being at tho same
time 140 pounds. Water was
pumped directly from the river, and
a double shift remained at the sta-
tion watching the pumps to avoid
anything going wrong.
