Half Timber Effect Is
Used on English Houses
Photie Want Ada to No. 19
Many houses, especially those of
English design, has a half timber
effect. As far as modern count me-
lion is concerned this is a sham
as no half timbers are used
they were hack in the l€th and
17th centuries.
The original half timber work
is a system of framing with very
large timbers, the space between
them being filled with lighter
frame work und plaster. Moder..
half timber work consists of the
ordinary framing of studs and
Hieathing with a 'thin pattern
work of board to represent tim-
ber applied thereto. The plaster
is brought up against the boards.
Half timber work was used ex-
tensively' in France and England
during the 16th ami 17th cen-
turies. It makes a striking ap-
pearance on these old buildings
and the same effect Is obtained to
day thru the use of the pattern
work on hoards.
