is John EM Franklin the youngest
probation officer in the United
States, but Franklin's records show
he has more cases under his super-
vision than any other such officer
in the United States.
As support of the first claim.
Franklin said he was born Oct.
5. 1911, at Durant, making him
126 years old.
He has charge of approximately
1.150 defendants who have appear-
ed in federal court In the eastern
Oklahoma district About 250 of
these are paroled from institutions.
The rest are on probation under
supended sentences, a big majority
of them tor liquor law violations.
Franklin said here he believed
the parole plan Is justified be-
cause records show that of 45,000
men paroled by the federal govern-
ment In 1935. 92 percent completed

tobacco sacks, the kind that holds
a nlckle's or a dime's worth of

The Butlers have turned hund-
reds of the little sacks into at-
tractive quilt tops They have made
seven and are working on their
eighth. It takes 390 small sacks
and 360 of larger 'dime a sack)
