SAPULPA.—(U.R) — Joe Bruner
champion of the red man’s cause
in Oklahoma for oer 40 years
once again heads the American
Indian federation.
He was elected president of the
organization at the annual pow-
wow held recently in Salt Lake
City, Utah
Prior to his departure Bruner
outlined what he considers as the
current needs of the Indian:
First: Removal of John Collier
commissioner of U. S. Indian af-
fairs.
Second: Restoration and ful’
pay of confiscated Indian land and
properties
Third: End to discrimination.
Fourth: A closer relationship of
the American Indian.
Fifth: Confederated Indian ap-
proval of tribal legislation.
Sixth: An intelligent Indian at
the department helm.
Bruner, a 63-year-old Creek, Is
an arch foe of Collier. He lays
many of the present woes of the
Indian at his door.
He was well known by 1888 In
Oklahoma territory. He was born in
the river flats of Tulsa Town in
1972. He crossed the stream with
his parents in boyhood and settl-
ed In what is now Creek county,
in always has lived on Ills 160-
acre allotment northwest of Sa-
pulpa.
Tt is Bruner's opinion that the
federation Is the most formidable
bid the Indian has for a national
recognition for Independence.
Bruner, a graduate of the colllege
• hat later became Barone, has been
an adviser to his tribal brothers for
years He has been lnterperter and
witness in many Indian cases and
litigation that took him to Wash-
ington New York and Chicago
