BUSJK&SS AM) COURTESY.
The time has oonio for the recog-
nition of courtesy as a prerequisite
for real, genuine business success.
It is being demanded as never be-
fore The mail without it is crip-
pled for the race, says the Southwest
13 anker.
Courtesy ls the mother hen gather-
ing under her warm wings the littio
chicks of sympathy, graclousness, af-
fability, self-control, love of truth,
modesty, good taste—recognition rf
the rights of others. It might fur
♦her be defined as that true self-re
spect and knowledge of self-worth
which recognises like qulaities in
others. Strength gives ease; cour-
tesy 1s that strength which puts all
pround it at ease. Courtesy is kind;
It seeks always to avoid unnecessarv
friction and conflict; to replace halo
*ith love; to turn on the light if a iy
are sitting in darkness; to send the
bewildered on his way. Courtesy is
its own reward, yet as a capital in-
vestment it returns dividends of 100
per cent per annum, besides passing
a like amount to surplus and charg-
ing off items of discourtesy, injustice
and perhaps even insult, received
in the usual course of business.
lowlands. His Invasion into the city
has been stopped by screens. So it
will be with the house fly if all will
co-operate and carry the battle cry
into all sections.
"Swat the Fly" may not sound sj
eloquent, but has a eanitary signifi
cance about it which will result in
a healthier land if all join in the
campaign.
It is a simple and inexpensive
f;ght and so much is meant by it that
ell should feel an equal interest in
peeking to exterminate the worst pest
that afflicts humanity and the uio3t
persistent disease carrier.
KKD WAR IS YiAGED.
"Swat 'Em" is the battle cry which
is resounding all over the entire
country. The danger of the common
house fly is at last being appreciated.
This war was started several years
ago. listlessly at first, it is true, but
actively now, says the Commercial
Appeal.
Every board of health from coajt
to coast and from gulf to the lakes
is urging the people to 6teal a march
on the fly and to follow up the good
work already done by better work.
Do not wait too long. Spring has
come and the time to steal the march
it now. Flies have not yet become
numerous. The first real warm
weather will bring them out in mil-
lions. Now is the time to prepare
an ambush for the predatory fly. It
can be done. It should be done.
The board of health of Chicago has
Bent out a bulletin telling residents
how to prepare a dose for the flies,
which is said to be final for them,
as far as any further existence is
concerned. Housewives are advised
to sprinkle a solution of one part of
formaldehyde to ten parts of wat?r
in their garbage containers during
the warm months, not only to kill the
odors but the flies and other insects
as well. It ls a simple remedy and
a cheap ote, for formaldehyde is io
be had for a trifle.
The Chicago board of health makes
another suggestion which is so sim-
ple that all should try it, especially
as it is said te be a deadly poison
for the fly. It advises that one pint
of milk and one pint of water be
mixed, to which add one tablespooa-

The News-Herald feels grate-
ful for the cash responses re-

acquainted with their indebt-
edness. it has been deliberate-
ly decided unites there is im-
mediate payment or satisfac-
tory explanation that the paper

It is also the duty of the
publisher of the News-Herald
to state that all subscribers
Bhown by the books to be de-
linquent, unless responding to
the courteous letter with which

The spy fever has registered an-

unfortunate is a German—a Prussian
official—and it is Russia that feels
her existence threatened by his ac-
tivities. Advices from Insterburg,
Fast Russia, state that Captain Dres-

Commission, ventured across the
Russian border to escort the Princes
Dohna o£ St. Petersburg, who had
been in East Prussia. On his returii
he was arrested by the Russian bor-

Dressier is a spy.
The Prussian government has al-
ready taken- steps to obtain a solu-
