hive years ago the Tribune)
editor, then in the midst of a
great educational empaign for
the sale of school lands, met \\\
L. Kagleton on a train and held
an hour’s conversation with him
on that question. It was a time
when it was unpopular to advo-
cate the sale of school lands: it
was a time when not a half dozen
papers in the territory raised
their voices in its defense, and
when the Chandler Tribune was
the only aggressive newspaper
for the sale of the school lands.
Mr. Kagleton informed us at
that ti lire that lie personally fa-
vored the sale of school lands;
that it was repugnant to a form
of government like ours to foster
a public tenantry; that it lowered
our citizenship and would ulti-
mately result in reduing the
broductive qualities of our lands
to a point where the school funds
would be impoverished.
I f cou rse we were glad to see
a strong public man like Judge
Kagleton take that side of the
question and we told him so.
Since then we have met Eagle-
ton at various conventions and
have ever found him fighting for
the sale of school lands. To our
knowledge lie has never missed
an opportunity tu raise his voiie
in behalf ol the sale of school
lands and in Lincoln county, has,
on numerous occasions, publicly
done so.
Kagleton is a sincere, earnest,
conscientious and powerful ad-
vocate of whatever he thinks is
