MORE SOPHISTRY.
Deception and sophistry have
long been the political weapon of
the News and the climax was
reached last week when the
News attempted to justify Re-
publican opposition to the initia-
tive and referendum. It is true
that Asp and the eleven “Aspies”
gaves as a reason fer opposing
the constitution that the initia-
tive and referendum was not a
matter because it was not a Re-
publican form of government.
Well if it ever became effective it
MUST be in the constitution. The
legislature would have no power
to delegate that right. It is a
part of the constitution of Oregon
and Gilstrap has referred to it
repeatedly. Now where is your
boasted sincerity? Either your

the Santa Fe would pay a high
salary to a fool to be their legis-
lative agent.
The News tries to make the
people believe that Asp had as
much cause to oppose the initia-
tive on the grounds of federal
interference as the Democrats
did to oppose the jim crow.
More sophistry. Not a hint
from Washington that Roosevelt
would with hold his signature on
account of the referendum.
Hundreds of letters advising
against the jim crow. Again
NO STATE CONSTITUTION CON-
TAINS A JIM CROW ACT. IT IS A
LEGISLATIVE MATTER AND IS
SURE TO BECOME A LAW. The
referendum if ever inforced must
be a part of the constitution. In
saying that it is against the pro-
visions of the enabling act is
equivalent to saying that it is
impossible. Do Asp and Gilstrap
care to be put in the position of
endorsing an impossibility?

Chandler, Okla.
Dear Sir:
Please announce through the
Tribune that I have decided to
withdraw from the race for
sheriff of this county. This ac-
tion is taken after mature delib-
eration for the reason that I find
myself unable to make the nec-
essary campaign to place my
candidacy before the people in
the proper manner. Permit me
to say that I feel sure of Demo-
cratic success and that the man
named by the primary on May
23rd will be next sheriff.
Yours for success,
Doug Kerr.
A Cool Meeting.
Evangelist Williams arrived
last Thursday and has been hold-
ing daily services at the Meth-
odist church. From the first
service the house lias been filled
and Sunday the evangelist
preached four times and the
house was filled to overflowing
each time. He is one of the best
preacher’s that ever held a meet-
ing in Chandler, and is drawing
about him workers in all church-
es in the city. His preaching is
forceful and to the point and he
never fails to interest a person,
whether a church member or not.
Several have already united
with the church and congrega-
tions indicate that much good
will result from the meeting.
Mr. Williams will be here until
April 26th, and will be worth the
while of any one to go many
miles to hear him.
As a matter of information, I
will advise the itinerary of the
Oklahoma trades excursion
shows the special train due
to arrive at Chandler on Satur-
day April 27th at 12:06 p. m. and
Will remain at Chandler 1 hour
and 45 minutes-
