GOOD ROADS
1RG0MENT
The Amusing Side—-
Excuses Given W ith
out Much Reason
The campaign for Good Koads
t nds with this week’s issue of
mj the paper. Everything has been
friendly and the election will be
held good natu redly. A few peo-
ple have opposed the proposition
as is always the case with any
^ proposition that might be sub
mitted to the people. Some of
those who hav e opposed it are
n > doubt sincere and others have
opposed it more for the sake of
argument than for any other
reason.
It is amusing to hear some
voter argue that it would cost
too much money to build a hard
surface road and then have them
say that they would favor the
proposition if every section line
could be favored with such a
road, as if it did not cost more
money to build several roads than
it would cost to build one road.
To h°ara voter offer many ex-
cuses against the law, the meth-
od of voting and other things,
and then say that no one would Jailer Charles Parker
oppose the proposition if it went — —
For a voter to say a tenant
should not have a right to vote,
then dodge the proposition when
you try to folio his line of ar-
gument and tell him that the
railroads and non-residents have
four times as much property in
the District as the resident
farmers and accordingly have
four times as many votes, is
funnier than to see a school boy
in his first attempt to make a
speech.
The fact is there is no logical
reason to be presented against
the buildiug of a road in Dis-
trict Mo. 1 when the farmers of
the district only pay 20 per cent
of the cost of such road and the
railroads and other non residents
pay the other portion. It is like
buying dollars for 20c, or like a
farmer expressed it, "paying the
express on a suit of clothes
when the other fellow paid for
the clothes”.
If a voter stays with the facts
and figures he is bound to ba for
the good road. So pin the oppo-
sition down to the facts and don’t
let them get away on flimsy ex-
cuses’

CHANDLER IS MORAL
The Police Judge of the City
of Chandler has plenty of time
to read of the revolution in Turk-
ey, the reports of the lion hunt
of T1 eodore Roosevelt and the
base bail games.
The city marshall lias plenty
of spare time to hoe the weeds
upon such good roads bonds.

I will present the flight class four
act comedy entitled “The Pro-
fessor’s Predicament.”
The interest of the story cen-
ters in the love affairs of the pro-
fessor whose life lias been spent
exclusively witnin college walls.
This, added to the fact that he is
near sighted, causes some ludi-
crous blunders.
Another interesting character
is that of Featherstone, the de-

COMIL
MEETING
The New City Offi-
cials Installed—Ap-
pointments Made
The City Council met in regu-
lar session Tuesday night, it. be-
ing the meeting for the iustaPa-
tion of the new officers.
Mayor Key presided at the op-
ening and an ordinance providing
for the pay ment of April expfns-
es was passed. Reports of offi-
cers were received and filed.
Mayor Key, in relinquishing
the gavel to his successor, made
an eloquent address thanking the
members of the council and the
citizens for their co operation
during the past year. The old
council then adjourned sine die.
Mayor McLaughlin was enthu-
siastically received by the mem-
bers of tiie new council and spec-
tators. His inaugural address
was full of hope for Chandler and
an inspiration to its citizenship.
The bonds of the officers elect
were taken up separately and ap-
proved.
The only “scrap” of the new
council came up over the print-
ing and naming of an official pa-
per.
Councilman Dawson moved
that The Tribune be given the
printing on the same terms as
last year.
Councilman Decker moved to
table the motion.
Several addresses were made
in a good natured but political
color.
The republican members voted
solidly to table, the democrats
voting against, making the vote
four to four. Mayor McLaugh-
lin voted against tabling. The
vote then occurred on the origi-
nal motion with the same result,
Mayor McLaughlin deciding the
contest and designating The
Tribune as the official paper for
the next year.
The mayor made tl^p following
appointments:
Night Marshal, B. F. Busby.
Purnp man, William Evans
Water Commissioner, J. Bart
Foster.
