picnic. They invite everybody to
come and bring well filled baskets
and enjoy the day together with

lowed to roam the streets at night
till a late hour and to loaf about men
and large boys who have no regard

Mr. Lawrence, assistant director of
the Council of the National Defense,
says, "There is a dereath of stenog-
raphers in Washington at the pres-
ent time available for government
service.” Never in the history of our
country has there been such great
demand for stenographers and office
help. Stenographers today earn
more than twice the salary of a few
years ago and at that the situation
is so critical that the number need-
ed cannot be secured at any price.
We have been asked to use our in-
fluence to have former graduates and |
others with whom we might get in
touch, take the civil service examina-
tion and enlist in the government
service. The government pays a good
salary to begin, gives good promo-
tion, good hours, sure paj^, vacation
