WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
The Pawnee Courier-Dispatch of

istration."

A. W. Lycan. the subject of this
sketch, was born in the state of Iowa
in the year 1865, and from that
state moved to northeastern Mis-
souri, where he spent part of his
boyhood and early manhood. Sub-
sequently he moved with his family
to Lincoln county, this state, and

taken in the endorsement of the
constitution and the state adminis-
tration is meeting with favorable
comment. Judge Robertson will be
a strong factor in the race. He has
belonged to no faction, and has a
clean record behind him.
The Cimarron Valley Clipper,
■which is giving Judge Robertson en-
thusiastic support, contained the
following: ___
‘‘ROBERTSON’S CANDIDACY.
"Hon. J. B. A. Robertson has
opened up headquarters at the Royal
hotel in Guthrie, with George A.
Smith as his campaign manager.
Jim RobertBon is In the race to win
the democratic, nomination for gov-
ernor If It can be done in an honor-
able manner. He is a gentleman of
capability from every standpoint.”
That Judge Robertson will be bit-
terly fought by the Bpecial Interests
and their tools is now evident. In
Its issue of February 24 the Walters
Journal, a bitter partisan republican
paper, said editorially:
‘‘Judge Robertson, the Haskell
candidate for governor, is against
the amendment of section 9, article
9. Inasmuch as his stand on this
question Is diametrically opposed to
th* progress and development of the
state, he should be eliminated from
the race even before he gets started.
The watchword for the coming cam-
paign should be “Develop Oklaho-
ma.” Any candidate opposed to this
jhould go down In defeat. It matters
not who he is or to what party he
belongs.” "■"*"*•—•
that position. So great has been the j
satisfaction given by him in this of- j
tice, that at the last election there I
was practically no opposition. Mr. j
Lycan was for twelve years presi- j
dent of Stroud lodge No. 36, A. H. |
T. A., and perhaps no lodge in the
state has a better record, for during
the presidency of Mr. Lycan not a
single horse thief escaped arrest
where a theft was committed in the
vicinity of Stroud. Stroud was on
tho border between old Oklahoma
and Indian territory and a few years
ago the A. H. T. A. had some stren-
uous times with horse thieves.
Mr. Lycan’s experience peculiarly
fits him for the office of sheriff,
and if elected there is no doubt that
he will serve the people well. He
believes in enforcing every law on
the statute hook, and believes in en-
forcing the prohibitory law without
fear or favor. He has always been
a democrat and has always been loy-
al to and assisted In promoting the
interests of that party during his
long residence in this county.
Mr. Lycan’s standing as a citizen
at his home is of the best. He asks
the careful consideration of his can-
didacy by the democratic voters of
this county.

all over the state and is highly com-
mended by platform and press. He

perience as a campaigner. He owns
a comfortable home in Enid. He is
secretary of the University Realty

the state association for the study

the jiublic fifteen years as » speak-
er and lecturer.
The editor of this paper, having
been repeatedly solicited to become
a candidate for congress in the First
Oklahoma district, has decided to
enter the race. He believes that
good government lies at the founda-
tion of all that Is best in education,
religion and morals; and that a man
can render no higher service to his
fellows than to help solve the prob-
lems, social, political, and moral,
that affect our common welfare. Be-
low we give a few of the comments
on the announcement, and the per-
sonality of the candidate:

“I hope you will be successful all
the way through. I like the plat-
form for which you have declared."
“Mr. Cook is remembered as the
founder of the Christian church in
Vinita, and if he is as good a politi-
cal campaigner as he is a gospel
campaigner, there will be something
doing In the First district.”—Vir.lta
Chieftain.
"Mr, Cook’s speech (of accept-
ance) was received with vociferous
applause.”—Enid Morning News.
County Chairman Macemore
writes from Washing that he "is
much pleased with the endorsement
of Cook.”
“Rev. Cook is a man of recognized
ability who has taken an interest in
public affairs in Enid and has helped
to advance the moral tone of the
community.”—Enid Daily Eagle.
At a meeting of the democrats in
the city of Enid, It was resolved by
those present, that as “the neigh-
bors and friends of Mr. Cook, they
feel justified in recommending and
endorsing him, because:
First. He is a democrat. His oath
of office, when elected, to “support
of the constitution of the United
States and of the state of Oklaho-
ma,” will be in keeping with his sin-
cere friendship and sympathy for
the constitution of the state of Ok-
lahoma. Third. Touching the ques-
tion of the constitutional prohibition
clause, Randolph Cook is a sufficent
platform in his own character and
personality. Fourth. His age, ed-
ucation and experience, as well as
his clean and well known character,
make his candidacy eminently fit-
ting." _____
