WHEN YOU NEED
DRUGS
Don't think of the price-
how cheap you can pet them
Think of the best drugs,
the purest, freshest and
strongest—and come where
you always get them. You
cannot get an inferior drug
at our store because we do
not handle any inferior
drugs or chemicals. Every-
thing we handle is the best
quality. There are no
prices lower than ours if
you consider quality'.

The Presidential Candidates.
o
Of the men before the country at
this time in the attitude of aspirants
for the democratic presidential nomi-
nation, Mr. Hearst comes nearer
measuring up to the requirements |
than any other. And in this connec-
tion we wish to repeat a statement
often made in these columns, and here
again subscribed to, that Mr. Hearst
lacks much of being an ideal candi-
date, but in our judgment is preferable j
to any of the other candidates because
he is a man of convictions on the live I
questions before the country and pos
senses the moral courage to make his
position known. He is attempting to

. Judge Parker, on whom the opposi-
tion 10 Mr. Hearst is centering, may
be, and doubtless is, a very line man, j
a very able judge and a very loya'.
democrat, but no one seems to know ;
where lie stands on any of the* live
questions before the country. The
mere fact that tie is a democrat is no
assurance that he is suitable timber
for the presidency. Grover Cleveland
calls himself a democrat but lie
couldn’t muster a corporal’s guard
in the eontesf for the position for the
reason th.it the rank and tile of dem-
ocracy will have none of his peculiar
brand in theirs. They learned some
eight years ago that he is a democrat
in name only and a republican in all
things else.
The platform adopted by the New
York convention which put Judge
Barker before the country us a candi-
date clears up some of the mystery
surrounding his candidacy. There is
not a plank in it which could not be
adopted without qualms of conscience
by tt republican convention. It is
utterly meaningless and designed to
deceive.
It is such evidence as this platform
and his studied reticence that causes
