day about socialism, ami is thinking
along right lines, because of the
luminous exposition of the subject
made by Mr. O'llare, the sifted young
educator.
Mr O'Hare occupies a very exalted
plane of thought. He teaches social-
ism pure » ' cry
thing so clear that even a child cun
not fall to understand him, and al-
lowing no false impression of wuat
socialism real ly is to r^maiy in tlie
minds of his hearers.
The contest among the school child-
ren for the prize of 41 offered for the
best definition of socialism, was the
feature of the evening. Mr. O’Hare
presented the socialist platform,
explaining each section that his hear-
ers might be able to judge correctly
the children’s definitions which were
to follow. He then read the twenty-
seven definitions offe ed by the child-
ren, segregating them into groups of
good, bad and indifferent imd show-
ing by comparison with the platform
wherein the defects lay. His remarks
wereywitty or profound as the occasion
required, and the aiftlienee was both
amused and instructed. Only one
“smart Afee’' submitted a definition
and we don’tjihink that he will try a
like performance again soon.
