FOR COMMISSIONER IN FIRST
DISTRICT.
A. H. R. Calvin, of Kendrick,
one of the best known republicans
in Lincoln county, has decided to
become a candidate for the nomi-
nation for commissioner in the
tiret district. Mr. Calvin is one
of the old settlers in the county.
The farm on which lie lived for
many years in North Fox town-
ship was known as one of the best
in the county, and his orchards
were of the tinest. He recently
sold this and bought a farm ad-
joining Kendrick. Mr. Calvin
came here from Kansas, and con-
cerning his republicanism t h e
Troy (Kans.) Chief said: “Dur
ing hiB residence in Doniphan Co
of more than a quarter of a cen-
tury, he has always been found
laboring for the success and wel-
fare of the republican ticket from
top to bottom.” Mr. Calvin is an
old soldier, having served in the
Tenth regiment of Kansas volun-
teers He is a man of euergy and
good business ability. He has a!
ways taken an active interest in
everything pertaining to the ad-
vancement of Lincoln Co. interests
He was a worker for free homes
in the early days, and later an
earnest vvo'ker for statehood. He
is progressive and public spirited,
a firm believer in good govern-
ment, and an earnest advocate of
public improvements consistent
with public economy. He has al
ways been a worker in party af-
fairs since he came to Lincoln Co.
and has been a delegate to many
territorial and state conventions.
Several years ago lie served as an
appraiser of school land in a most
creditable manner. His experi
ence, acquaintance, and intelli-
gence are important qualifications
for the public service, Calvin
should make an ideal commission
er and looks to us very much like
an easy winner.
