Father Isadore delivered an el-
oquent address and gave an in-
teresting resume of the history of
corner stone laying. The early
Christians were compelled to
worship in catacombs and other
out of the way places until the ar-
'cession of Constantine the Orest;
then the greatest liberality was
shown, and magnificent temples
were erected, 1 his was the be-
ginning of corner stone laying.
The speaker drew many beautiful
spiritual lessons from the cere-
mony and urged his hearers to lay
the corner stone of faith within
the heart, and upon it erect a
superstructure of Christian char-
acter which will be a passport to
Heaven.
The official document deposited
and sealed in the corner stone
contains the names of
His Holiness, Pope Leo XIII.
being in the 25th year of his
reign.
II is Eminence, Cardinal Mar-
tinelli, being pro delegate apos-
tolic.
His Eminence, Cardinal Gib-
bons, being Archbishop of Balti-
more.
Rt. Rev. Thcophile Meors-
ehaert, lb lb, bishop of Okla-
homa and Indain territories.
Rev. Dom Constantine Pourcin
0. S. B., being pastor of the El
'Reno Catholic congregation.
Theodore Roosevelt, president
of the United States.
T. F. Ferguson, governor of
Oklahoma territory.
F. X. Gerrer, M. Sendelbach,
W. Ross and W. Devine, trustees
of the El Reno congregation.
,J. J. Flynn, architect ef flic
church, and some 300 other names
of county and city officials and
contributors to the building fund.
The corner stone was donated
by Geo. S. Pearl.
The church when completed,
which will be in about three
months, will be of pressed brick,
37 feet by 90 feet, with an annex
of 16 feet. The tower will be 85
his connection with the church.
In the evening Mr. and Mrs.
Anderson united with the Chris-
tian church, and in an address ol
more than an hour he gave his
reasons for leaving the Baptist
church. Those who heard him
say ho was particularly severe ii.
his opposition to the doctrine of
election" and to the usages ol
close communion.
From interviews with members
of the. Baptist church it was
learned that trouble has been
brewing for some time and con-
siderable opposition has mani-
fested itself with regard to senti-
ments expressed from the pulpit;
also to Mr. Anderson's efforts to
change the name to that of Brick
Church of Christ.
Regret is expressed by the
members, but the consensus ot
opinion seems to be that the
church authorities would havi
taken action themselves had noi
the minister anticipated them h,\
resigning.
During the week Mr. Anderson
will preach at t He Christian
church.
