"WANTS FOUR YEARS MORE
Guthrie,July 29.—The fact that Gov.
Tom Ferguson is silently and sur-
reptitously using his influence against
statehood is a bomb in the McGuire
Btatehood camp that is causing the
greatest trouble at the present time
and in fact the followers in the lattei
camp make no bones about the affair.
It is known that the governor ex-
pects, in ease of Roosevelt is elected
to get a second appointment as gov-
ernor for a term of four ye rs, wnere-
as undrestatehood his regime is brief.
He has come to the conclusion that the
easiest way to get four years more at
the pie counter is to defeat statehood
and for this reason he is silently, it is
alleged, lending his support to those
fellows in the party who are against
McGuire.
It results from this stand of the gov-
ernor that the “teaoup”conversations
get into print so readily and without i
rebuke from the governor himself. No
McGuire man will protest the state-
ment that Ferguson is behind every
statement made by his son when per-
gonal attacks are made on the wheel-
horses of the party.
In every move for the past several
months the governor has advanced
more closely to the Flynn factionists
and taken a more positive stand
against the McGuire forces. Repub-
licans believe that with McGuire re-
elected statehood is certain, therefore
the governor and his immediate small
•following are "ferninst” McGuire, for
under a territorial form of govern-
ment they have a better chance to
remain in power, hh fact the only
