A hive of the Ladies of the Macca-
bees will be organized at 8 o’clock
Tuesday evening,Jan. lib, at the south
lodge room by Mrs. A. J. Rittenhouse,
deputy supreme commander of the
order.
All who have made application for
membership are expected to he present
to tuke advantage of the rate muile to
charter members.
This order is a fraternul beneficiary
society for women. The membership
numbers about 150,000, and the emer-
gency fund last October was $028,000.
The total benefits paid to that date
amounted to $2,825,000.
This is exclusively a woman’s order,
giving life benefits, total and perma-
nent disability benefits. It is auxiliary
to the Knights of die Maccabees, and
is the pioneer society giving lifu pro-
tection to women. The lirst hive was
organized in 1880. It is the largest
fraternal beneficiary society among
women in the world.
The ritual is beautiful and impres-
sive, everything connected therewith
being of the highest character.
It furnishes life protection which is
absolutely sure at moderate cost.
A large number of Chandler ladies
will become charter members and a
strong organization is assured from
the start.

The Brownlow Bill.
A bill has been introduced in ( on-
gress at Washington, hy the Hon.
Walter P, Brownlow, a member of
Congress from Tennessee, and in the
senate by Hon. J. H. Galllnger, sena-
tor from New Ilninpsh're, appropriat-
ing $24,000,000 as national aid for the
building of roads.
This Bill Provides
1st.—For the creation of a depart-
ment at Washington, with proper su-
perintendent and employees, to take
care of the building of these roads.
2d. The $24,000,000 to be appro-
priated is available at the rate of
$8,009,000 a year for three years, to
be divided among the different states
according to their population, except
that no stale is to receive less than
$2.50,000 of this money.
fid.—Each state, county or town re-
csiving federal aid must add a like
amount to the sum received from the
United States government.
4th—Should any stale not take the
amount allotied to it under this law
before January 1, 1907, all such
amounts not taken up are to be re-al-
lotted in proportion to the population
of the different states which have tak-
en up their entire allotment.
A like amount must be added by the
states or counties receiving aid, so
that $48,000,000 are to be spent on
roads.
Distribution by number of inhabi-
tants is far more equitable than the
distribution of some $92,500,000 u
year under the Rivets and
A Time to Dance—When?
Rev. Owens at the Christian church
Sunday night said in part:
•There are always three facts con-
nected with every act, namely: the
purpose that prompts tHe doing, the
act Itself, and the result. Applying
these facts to the modern ball” the
speaker declared, ‘‘ought to be sul^i-
cient to prove to any reasonable,
thinking person that dancing is
wrong. ’ ’
The speaker contended that when in
the Bible dancing was spoken of, if
not condemned, it was always to cele-
brate some religious uct and was
never engaged in by both sexes
“That dancing is a healthful recrea-
tion is not true,"declared the speaker,
"for it injures both body and intel-
lect; that it is a recreation of pleasure
is not true, because the tired clerk,
the wearied factory girl, the loafer
and gentlemen and ladies of leisure
alike seek it."
The speaker gave scripture refer-
ences to show that it is not only
wrong for Christians to dance, but
that it is actually forbidden.
He claimed that no church had a
right to legislate either for or against
dancing, but that the Bible alone
should be the law.

So many people who have apparently recovered from an attack of La Grippe are stricken
with Pneumonia. This is due to the fact that the Bronchial Tubes and Lungs are left weakened
