In the next National Convention
New ^ ork State will have seventy-
eight votes and the State will cast
thirty-nine votes in the Electoral
College for the Presidential Can-
didate carrying the State. For
several years the Empire State
has had seventy-two votes in the
conventions and thirty-six in the
Electoral college. The Change is
due to the recent Congressional
reappointment, which gave three
additional Congressmen to the
State. This gives New York
thirty-seven representatives with
the two Senators. In each con-
vention there are two delegates
for each representative and each
Senator. There is one member in
the Electoral College for each re-
presentative and Senator.

All.>n-t> XI11., King of .Spain,
solemnly took the oath to the Con-
stitution in the Hall of Assembly
of the Chamber of Deputies today,
with the utmost ceremony and in
accordance with all the religious
forms and ancient rites.
The cardinal Archbishop of
Toledo mounted the steps of the
throne, placed himself in front
of the king and invited his Majes-
ty to make, before his faithful sub-
jects and in a loud voice, his pro-
fession of faith, and presented
him with the open book. The an-
nointment and the administration
of the oath followed, both cere-
monies being conducted with great
,(i]cniniiy !»td impressiveness.
His Majesty received the bened-
iction from the special envoy of
the Pope, who recited the prayer
prescribed by the ritual. The
young king arose and order
ed that the royal mantle with the
Collars of the Order of the Golden
Fleece be presented to him. They
were presented on cushions richly
ornamented with gold. One of
the assistants of his Majesity ad-
justed the royal mantle. In
similar manner his Majesty caused
to be presented to him the scepter
and sword, and having taken the
scepter in one hand and the sword
in the oilier he seated himself on
the throne. In a few moments he
arose and placed the sword and
•cepter on cushions beside him,
where reposed also the, crown of
Spain. This terminated the act ual
ceremonies of the occasion.
As a spectacle the events of
the day defy description, and as a
Subject for national rejoicing the
shouts of the people still continue,
and the ringing of the bells testify
of the success of the occasion.
