with forceable rape, defendants
were held to answer to the district
court. This case occupied most
of the time Wednesday

horsestealing, waived preliminary
and was held under $L>00 bond
to the district court.
Oda Steams of Fallis was ar
raigned Monday on a charge of
selling whiskey, lie plead guilty
and received a fine of $50 and BO
da)s in jail and costs.

with a hunting party in the Kiam

cent of the Deep Fork drainage
bonds at par, the other 15 per
cent to be delivered to them on
estimates as work progresses

County Superintendent Rawdou
visited the Sparks schools one day
last werk and was met by a most
remarkable record, The schools
have four rooms and on that day
there were but three pupils absent
from the four rooms.
State School Inspector E. F.
Proffitt will be in Lincoln county
two days viz Dec. 4th and 5th.
He will visit as many schools as
possible on those dates.
Jarrett Hill of Avery was put
in the county jail last Friday
night charged with transporting
liquor. The hearing will be in
the county court this week.
The county superintendent is
sending out the second monthly
list of 100 w’ords to spell. He is
sending same to each school and
thinks the plan will be a success.
He believes that the spelling con-
test next spring will be a good one
and that these lists stimulates an
interest.
Elic Vaden a negro boy 17
years old was tried before Justice
McDonald at Agra last Saturday,
The case was prosecuted by As-
sistant County Attorney F. A.
Wragoner. He was charged with
petit larceny and found guilty of
stealing two blaukets from Arthur
Hines, . He was sentenced to 10
days iu the county jail.
Prof, Beach a negro was arrest-
ed last week charged with stealing
cotton near Stroud aud selling it
at Kendrick. He will be tried
Nov. 15 before Justice J. H Hay-
nes of Stroud.

brought two prisoners to the coua
ty jail Saturday charged with steal
ing cotton, They will be tried in
Justice court at Stroud ou Nov
15th.

Mr. Stanley advises the com mis
sioners that whenever a resolution
is passed accepting the proposition
he, Stanley, will furnish the priut
ed bonds. A close reading of the
bid discloses the fact that the
Bond company expect to receive
the 15 per cent on which no bid
is made, free. The law prohibits
the selling of bonds below par and
this is evidently an effort to evade
the law.
Many do not think the b d bona
fide but believe that it is an effort
on the part of Mr Stanley to ap
parently fulfill his contract in or-
der to get his $*),000 fee at | er
his contract with the county com
missioners. It appears that Mr.
Stanley's bond buyers have a dif-
ferent idea of the meaning of the
contract from that generally ac
cepted. The county commission
era would ardly give 15 per cent
of the bonds as a premium to the
