vel quite o distance to get on them.
Ctttoa find that they Increase trade

'Tanking hay while the sunshines."
So that we are about ready for the
huts road system. Tho Iowa Good
Moods association, according to sen-
timent of the executive committee
will present n state good roads bill
to tho aasambly with hope that It
will ho favorably considered. It will
rceommond a ganollne tax of 2 cents
per ration. It will ask that special
assessments be done away with. It
will recommend the hard surfacing
of 2 thousand miles of road and the
construction of 36 hundred miles of
gravel.
Beyond this, the legislature will
be naked to submit to the people the
question of a state bond issue of 83
million dollars to be used in the par-
ing of the federal interstate high-
ways «nd such other part of the
primary system as may be designated
by the legislature.
According to the plan, two-thirds
of the gasoline money will go to the
secondary roads improvement. There-
fore, the. whole state wlil benefit
from this tax.
• Iowa has gone far enough along
bow to be satisfied that federal in-
terstate roads must be built and
maintained by the state. If this U
done there Is no question about fed-
eral aid. We are taxed for this fed-
oral aid and if we don't make ar-
rangements to work with the federal
government, our money will go to
father states that do.
Only state roads can arrange mat-
ters ao that we will not have a good
•tretch ot road In one county and
then drop off Into the mud In another
m county. Only state building and main-
tenance will give us tho roads we
Rood and keep them In shape.
