Could sukl:
“These winter passages are un-

“One bleak December day I was sit-

deck of a Cunarder. The seas were
mountains high. The good old boat
seemed to stund on her head one min-
ute, and the next she reared right up
on her hind legs.
“A tiny tot of n hoy made his way

"Science revolutionizes our Ideas.”
The speaker was W. L. George, the

“A millionaire contractor was com-

did so for purely mercenary motives.
"But my scientific friend pooh-

SAYS GERMANY IS STRONG
AND POWERFUL NATION
General Wrangle Declares “Red” Ter-

aerts Bolsheviki Unable po

by War.
Birmingham, England, Feb. 7.—
Germany is not making any real ef-
fort to pay her war debt, Premier
Lloyd George charged in a speech
here tonight.
“Germany is a strong and powerful
nation and should pay ” he said. “I’m
going tc; tell Foreign Minister Von
Simons when I meet him in London
shortly that Germany is not making
a real effort to pay for the war.”
Lloyd George was making his sec-
ond speech of the day, this one at a
dinner of the jewelers and silver-
smiths association. Speaking of th„
industrial situation, the premier de-
pored the depression in commerce,
but declared he had no noubt of the
nation’s ability to weather the storm.
England is going through inevitable
difficulties following a war, he said.
Following the conflict, he said, trade
collapsed with such appalling sudden-
ness that every nation is suffering.
Foreign exchange must be stabilized
before the situation can be remedied,
he declared, then added: ,
“I have an idea that Germany is
not trying to stabilize hers. Germany
Is a strong and powerful nation and
should pay the reparations demand-
ed.
“Great Britain has never seen dark-
er days than the present,” he said.
“But the same determination and
spirit which carried us through the
war will triumph now.”

ALL DRUGGISTS SELL IT
Constantinople, Feb. 7.—The Rus-
sian bolshevik are unable to maintain
themselves without war, declared Gen-
eral Wrangle, the south Russian anti-
bolshevik leader, in a statement here
today, so they are preparing an at-
tack upon Poland and Rumania “which
they will go through like a shot ” he
predicted.
“The biggest question in the world
today is the Russian question said
General Wrangle,” and civilization is
being menaced by the new bolshevik
military propaganda.
“The only thing we ask from the
outside world,” he added, “is the mor-
al support and the money which the
nations, including America, should
give in their own interest. I never re-
ceived a cent from the French the
British or anybody, but conducted my
campaigns by selling the grain of the
country as we advanced. I lost the
Crimea because I had no more muni-
tions and clothing for my men.”
Pass Bill Over Presidents’ Head.
Washington, Feb. 7.—The joint
resolution directing the stopping of
enlistments until the regular army
is reduced to 175,000 men was passed
tonight by the House uver President
Wilson’s veto. The veto was over-
ridden by a vote of 271 to 16, one vert-
ing present.

Berlin, Feb. 7.—The premiers of the
several federated states of the Ger-
man notiem wre in session with the
Berlin cabinet here until late this eve-
ning over the reparations question,
the meeting being followed by the an-
nouncement that complete unanimity
prevailed among all the participants
in the conference. The speech of for-
eign minister Simons in the Reich-
stag had been given unqualified en-
dorsement by the representatives of
Bavaria, Baden, Wuerttemburg, Sax-
