Billy hits had splendid dances for over
a year, but we are sorry to stty this

Marion Blake, who lots ]Lieeii visiting
his uncle, Mr. O. 1*. Blake, for some
time past, started for his home at
Wabusli, Ind., last Tuesday morning.
Mr. Drake is suffering with rheuma-
tism.
We understand that Mr. Roland
died Dec. "1st of nbcess of the stom-
ach. Mr. Roland has been sick for a
long time. The family have the sym-
pathy of the entire community.
A protruded meeting is being held
lit Mr. Ihtvis’ school house. They are
.getting several joiners, and are having
large crowds and n grand good time.
Mr. B. 1’. Gould, of Raw nee. is the
preacher.

The rain is over, the sun shines, anil
the plow goes again.
W. A. Ciaft and .1. M. Sagers have
gone to Perry. Air. Craft will bring
back n load of groceries and the lum-
ber with which to build a store room.
Garden Grove is to have a store, nnd
has the promise of a blacksmith shop.
The Eden Yale school hou£e is al-
most finished. The carpenter work
was done by T. J. Johnson. It will be
one of the best school houses in the
county when completed. It is large
and built out of good material, nnd
the mechanical work on it would he u
credit to any carpenter.
Many thanks to Bryan Blarney for
his invitation to the lyceum, hut we
failed to get there.
Yankee Bob caught the democrat j
and republican editors dividing up the
last remains of the pop organ at Paw-
nee last Monday. They handled it
rather roughly for p, corpse. The cor-
oner was pot in attendance, but one of
its old friends was able to* follow the

Mr. 8ain Cramer lias returned from
Waco. Jasper county, Missouri, and
taken possession of his claim, pur-
chased of A. Brown, in Sec. ", Tp, 20.
R. (l E., with good prospects of a nice
housekeeper soon.
Siicide:—On the morning of Dec
25th, Mr. II. F. Williams, living on
the L. R. Coffey claim on Ranch creek,
committed suicide by shooting himself |
in the brenst with a double-barreled
shotgun loaded with htickshot. The
old gentleman, who is nearly SO years
old, is a native of New York, and had
a son living in Cartcrville. Mo. but he
loved solitude and preferred staying
by himself, thinking that lie was least
in the way by so doing. lie was a
well educated nnd refined liirin, a good
druggist and physician, but would not
be licensed to practice. His remains
were interred on Mr. DeWilt’s claim
near by.
An enjoyable dance was held ut
Eden Vale school house in Shoestring
valley. New Years eve. Mrs. J. Roby-
ler lakes up school at the above named
school house on the 16th inst for a term
of three months.
Mr. C.‘Young, on Sec. 5. Tp. 20, It.
H E., has just completed a nice resi-
dence on his claim and moved in and
taken possession for a series of years.
The only thing lacking to complete hix
happiness is a sweet little birdie to

Mr. George Carlisle made a Hying
visit to Pawnee recently, with liis

erally good.
Ali-s Vida E. Berry closed a very
successful term of school in District
31 last Friday.
Tlie rains have raised the water to
such an extent recently ns to overflow
the most of the creeks and branches,
and the ground is thoroughly soaked.
The wells are chuck up and cellars
ditto. Listen for prophecies of big
crops next year.
Rev. Dimkleborger Is holding a pro-
tracted meeting at West Point.
Win. Craft is building a store room
14x16, near the Kagnr school house,
and his pleniing face will soon he seen
behind the counter selling groceries
to the funner**. It would be well to
have a postoflice established there.
Soon the ring of the anvil can be
heard, as Mr. Sager contemplates put-
ting up a shop with new tools ut the
same placo.
In reading over Ike columns of your
grand old paper last week, 1 noticed
an item front Iho pen of \ ankee Bob
in regard to the grand old times they
were having in discussing the issues of
the day In District 82. So on last
Thursday night Spot concluded to go
down and take sides with Yankee Hob,
hut ho failed to show up, and not even
mi officer of the society was there, hut
j found a lot of giddy young boys. It
would b? well for the board in 82 to
see some insurance agent.
