TWO YEARS OLD
THANK YOU
The Echo has just complected
its Becond volum. This is number
one of volum three. We celebrate
the event by moving into a nest
of our own. For the past two years
we have nested with the Daily News
Now we may be found at No 906
Monroe Street,where we will be
pleased to receive our frieds. The
Echo has no apalogy to make for
the past, and no rose colored prom-
ises to make for the future. Our
readers who have been with us from
the start, doubtless remember with
what vigor we pushed the free home
cause buring our first year. Now
we start out upon tin third year
with Statehood For Oklahoma
With Enid as its Capital, nailed to
our masthead. We think there
is more in this movement for the
people of Garfield County th n
there is in any other issue in sig'jt
We invoke the aid of republi-
cans,democrats and populists alike
Let us put aside partisan strife
for awhile and work together for
the common good of all. Oklaho-
hasa population of a half a
million. Its people are as orderly
and obedient to law as alike num-
ber of people in any state of this
union. We have firmly rooted all
the institutions of an advanced
civilization. We have a perfect
system of free education graded
from the infant class to the college
graduation. We have the church
organizations of every sect and
creed. We have ail the political
parties organized in harmony with
the national organizations. We
have taxable property sufficent to
support a state government, upon*
as light a levey as any state in the
entire cluster. We are perpared
to contribute both in moftey and
men our full quota for the national
defence. Under these conditions
Congress has no moral right to de-
ny full citizenship. In our judg-
ment it will not do so. Oklahoma
will soon have an invations to enter
UnoleSams family circle. We
should h jld our heads up like free
men,and let Congress know just
what we want. We should let
Congress know that Oklahoma is
now worthy of statehood, that In-
dian Territory is by no means
prepared for panieuership with us
and that we will not accept such
pardnership, for the good and sdf-
ficent reason that we would be re-
quired to furnish all the income
while the Indian Territory would
create two thirds of the expenses.

have a rousing big convention at
before Congress meets.
SINGLE STATEHOOD
An official call has been issued
by the Single Statehood Committe
as follows,
A convention is lierby called to
bo beld at the oity of Mliscogee'in
the Indian Territory on the 14th of
November,to be composed of 300
delegates from Oklahoma and 300
delegates from the Indian Territory
AU male persons of the two Ter-
ritorries without reguard to race,
political affilations or rolieiou# be
liof,who favor Single Statenood are
invited to meet in mass conven-
tion in accordance with sugges-
tions herein made. For the pur-
iwse of discussing Single State-
hood, and to tako such steps us the
the wisdom of covention may deem
necessary to bring about the de-
sired end."
It will lie observed that this is to,
be a convention of those who are
in favor of Single Statehood. No
one else will be admitted according
to the call. The two territeries are
to be entitled to equal repersenta-
tions and the conventions is to be
held over in the heart of the Indian
Territory. The Echo is in favor
of a covention of the citizens of
Oklahoma to be held in some oc n-
tral place like Enid. Let such a
convention left free to consider the
Statehood question in all its bear-
ings. Such a conve ntion oould
consider single,double,and,immed-
iate Btatehood for Oklahoma with-
out waiting for IndiJfh Territory
New Mexico or any other tribe on
earth. We take the liberty to sug-
gest that the Mayor invite the
Mayors of all the cities'in Oklaho-
ma to meet and arrange a call for
au Oklahoma Statehood Conven-
tion to meet about November20th
Time is short aud the real friends
of Oklahoma ought to be awakened
Land For Two States.
Washington dispatches state
that oommiasioner Jones favors
statehood for oklahoma seperatly
from the Indian Territory. He says
"A territorail form of government
for the Indian Territory would be
profferable to inetadingit in a state
with Oklahoma. There is sufficent
land out there for two fine states.
Ibeleve ok'alioma should have
statehood alone.
Let us have a regular streight
Oklahoma Statehood convention.
Held at Enid at an eaily date.
Now is the time for Enid to
waltz to the front and take a hand
in the statehood game. Dont wait
untill the deck is stocked.
unexampled growth and prosperty

talk of makiiwthe Indian Territo-
ry a part of the new state at the
present time.lt oant aud wont be
done. Congress will not flo it and
to wait untill the Indian Territory
is ready to be taken it means many
years of waiting. What should be
done by Mr.Flynn the incoming
congress is to introduce a bill for
Oklahoma alone regardless of any
other locality, and push it for all it
is worth, President Roosevelt has
expressed himself as being very
favorable toward Oklahoma state-
hood and he may be relied upon to
do what hlfe can for it. TV' Indian

JBNID COMING OUR WAY.
Many papers,in various parts of
Oklahotra which have advocated
the union of the two Territories iu
one state are n ow expressing a will
ingness t« take statehood for Okla-
homa alone.
Statehood will be years coming
if the agitation for a union with
the Indian Territory is continued
and all who honestly desire that
Oklahoma should be made a state
should unite in the demand for
statehood for Oklahoma alone.
Oklahoma has n vast acreage of
sohool lands, the income from which
is divided according to school pop-
ulatjpn among the various districts

We should also give it out flat
that we will not consent to any
irrevocable decree binding us to
axoept such partnership in the fu-
ton. We wiah to stand alone up-
on oar own merits and let the In-
dian Territory do likewise. If the
Indian Territory ever reaohes a
position when it oan enter upon a
partnership upon equal terms and
oonditaons with us we may then
coaaid'r such a proposition but not
before that time. Odr republican
friends should writsHon DT.Flynn
and tell him just what is wanted.
A statehood oonvention held at

There never has been a statehood

NEWSPAPER CIRCULATION.
Recently all the newspaper men
of the county were called into court
to state under oath the number of
papers they print and circulate
within this county. There was
much squirming end some evasion
Itsinoe developes that some of
the bre thern were not satisfied with
the statements they made under
oath and they have made supple-
mentary statements throngh their
editorial columes. The Echo has no
desire to amend the record we do
not claim as large a circulation as
the New York World or the Chica-
go Post. We are not ladoring un-
der any extravagant mental excite-
ment- We go right on in a quiet
way adding a few names to our list
from time to time. Th^ week wo
print and circulate 005 floppies of
the Echo,as against 625 a month
ago. Advertisers who patronise us
get a fair honest deal. We always
keep cool and shall not try to eat
up any of the newspaper men of
the city while the butchers furnish
us as nice tender meet as they have
been doing.
Govenor Jenkins says a number
of the territorial officers will attend
the Muskogee Convention in order
to assertain the exact feeling in re'
guard to immediate statehood.
Since the call excludes all who
are not in favor of the union of the
two territories there will be no
oppertunity of assertaining the
exact sentiment of the people.
The Muskogee convention may
voice the sentiment of Indian Ter-
ritory butitoannot represent the
sentiment of oklahoma on acoount
of the narrow restrictions of the
call. It the officials want to know
the sentiment of oklahoma let us
have a convention called at a point
accessible for Oklahoma prople to
which delegates shall be admitted
without a pledge to favor any par-
ticular form of statehood.
ELECTRIC CABS.
A system of electric oan oonnec
ting Garber,Cropper,Hunter,Krem
lin,Carrier,Lanoma,Wawkomis,and
Drummond with Enid, would be
very convenient and beneficial to
Garfield county. These oan would
stop any where on call and farmen
oould oome to town on rainy days
and leave their teems to gnae in
the pasture- They could oome to
lectnres,entertainmeuts,and public
meetings. In fact farmen oould
enjoy all the priveliges of oity life.
The roads would be a paying
investment- Our farmen have
enongh money laying idle in the
banks to construot the system.
Why not Work this enterprise up
and buHd the system with Garfield
county money and keep the profits
at home. They have suoh systems
in 111. Ind. Ohio and other states.
It is high time for us to have
something of that kind hsre.
Mr.Ronnnsof Hutchinson Kan.
has sued a loan oomphanp to com-
pell it to take his money before
their mortgage is due. There may
be a crop failure pefore the courts
settle that controversy.
