Vann and Garfield Vann, who are

in the penitentiary for grand larceny,

July 3., (Via Wireless to San Diego,
Calif., July 4.)—The cruiser Cleve-
land returned to Acapulco today
from Cllpperton Island, bringing sur-
vivors of the American schooner No-
komis of San Francisco, wrecked on
a coral reef February 28. The
thirteen castaways hail been cared
for by inhabitants of the island who
number only thirty, until a growing
food shortage made a trip to the
mainland imperative. The volunteers
undertook the voyage of 670 miles
to Acapulco and accomplished it
safely. Rear Admiral Howard as-
signed the Cleveland to the rescue.
