OfflCtRS GET URGE Fill 10 RAISE
on OF BOOZE FUNDS FOR BAND
(From Monday's Daily Arrow)
A1 and Lon Johnson and Miss
Doxie Cole of the Park Hill neigh-
borhood were arrested yesterday by
Deputy U. S. Marshal Ned Grittsj
and i*uti Horse Thief Deputy Bai-
lew of Cookson, charged" with in-
troducing liquor into India . country.
The trio were arrested this aide of
the southern line of Cherokee coun-
ty at the head of Elk Creek, west of
Marble, and were, it is alleged, re-
turning from Port Smith, Ark., in a
wagon which contained 20 gallons
of whisky and a barrel of beer.
The officers heard of their going
to Port Smith one day last week and
were laying in waiting for them to
return. While they were well arm-
ed with six shooters and a Win-
chester rifle they made no resistance
and submitted quietly to being
hand cuffed and were driven to this
city, where the entire outfit was
taken in custody by the officers and
the charged offenders lodged in jail.
All three are being given a hear-
ing before U. S. Commissioner Re-
ville this afternoon and at tlie time
of going to press evidence was be-
ing taken.

Some time ago a committee was
appointed to raise by subscription
funds sufficient to pay the salary
of the leader of the Commercial
Club Hand, and the committee now
reports that they have been unable
to raise the required amount. At
the time the committee was appoint-
ed the band boys assured Leader
Richards that his salary would be
paid and there is now due about
$ i00 which the members of the
band will have to put up out of
their pockets if our citizens are dis-
posed to let them lose it. It seems
strange that with the excellent t>and
this city has that enough money is
not forthcoming to pay the leader's
salary. We tWnk our business men
should take another think over this
matter before allowing this or-
ganization to go to pieces for want
of the proper support. Thursday
night will be the last of the present
band organization 'if steps are not
taken in the meantime to assure
the leader's salary. Think it over.

ful meeting.

sengers for hire to establish an in-
terstate rate which shall not exceed

nation of local rates" is meant the

interstate, for two or more shorter
distances when such distances add-
ed together equal the interstate
distance.

local passenger rates carriers en-
gaged in the transportation of inter-
state passengers •eliall tile with the
interstate commerce commission
through joint passenger tariffs, ef-
fctive six months from the date of
change in local rates, establishing
interstate rates as provided in sec-
tion one of this act: Provided,
that this will not apply to what is

(From Monday's Dally Arrow)
Homer Harris, who has been a
sufferer with pneumonia for several
days, during dellrum last night cut
his throat with a pocket knife and
ia today in a critical condition.
Harris, who lives with his motter-
in-law, Mrs. Teehee, on South Mus-
kogee avenue, across the street from
the city hall, has been quite ill for
more than a week with pneumonia
and to ease his suffering and relieve
the phlegm from his throat has been
eating lemons. Last night he asked
his wife for a lemon and his pocket
knife to cut it. Not thinking of any
intention to do himself bodily harm
the request was granted. A few
minutes afterwards Mrs. Harris laid
down on the bed with him to rest
for a few minutes and thinks she
must have fallen asleep, as she was
awakened a few minutes later by
groans and a gurgling sound. By
the lime she lighted the lamp the
bed was covered with blood which
was spurting In all directions from
the wound. The knife used was an
office style one and probably due
to dullness the juglar vein was
spared, but the windpipe completely
several.
Drs. Duckworth & Peterson were
hurriedly summoned to the bedside
and proceeded to join the ends of
the windpipe.
The doctors report recovery im-
possible as the condition of the
'i't.it makes it impossible for the
,i.\tient to sluff off the contents of
tlu> clogged lungs, and it is only a
question of a few hours until death
will result.
Mr. and Mrs. Harris recently mov-
ed to this city from Park Hill where
they have been living on Mrs.
Teehee's farm the past year. Mr.
Harris was a carpenter of consider-
able ability and has, with his father,
done considerable work in this city.
Mrs. Harris Is a half-sister of
Probate Attorney Houston B. Tee-
hee.
