Increase in Production Makes Cotton
the Leading Crop of the New State
to-be and Statistics Show
Gains.
That a total of thirty-six cotton gins
were chartered and built throughout
Oklahoma during the past year, at an
outlay of $484,000, Is sufficient evidence
that the cotton crop Is gradually be-
coming the Important crop in the ter-
ritory. An Interesting fact in this con
inection Is that two gins were built
in Northwestern Oklahoma, at Beaver
City and Woodward, where never be-
fore has cotton been considered a pay-
ing crop. The majority of the new
gins, however, were built In the south-
western part of the territory, in tho
cotton district.
In addition to the gins, four compa-
nies were organized and chartered to
deal in cotton, with a total capital of
$1.10,000. Two cotton picking separat-
ing companies were chartered with $">,-
050,000 capital, and two cotton oil mill
companies with $200,000 capital stock.
For cotton Interests alone during the
year of 1905 the capital stock of compa-
til i-liartered amounted to jr,,ss-|,<
Tho cotton mills chartered were for
Mangum and Norman. During the
year also a cotton compress was com-
pleted at Guthrie at a cost of $10,000.
At the present tlmo there are five
cotton oil mills, three compresses and
in the neighborhood of two hundred
gins in Oklahoma. Before Oklahoma
existed as a territory, and in fact was
a part of Indian Territory, the first
cotton gin was erected near Eufaula
over twenty-eight years ago.
Cured His Mother of Rheumatism.
"My mother has been a sufferer for
many years from rheumatism," says
W. H. Howard, of Husband, Pennsyl-
vania. "At times she was unable to
move at all, while at all times walk-
ing was painful. I presented her with
a bottle of Chamberlain's Pain Balm
and after a few applications she de-
cided It was the most wonderful pain
relevler she had ever tried, In fact
she Is never without It now and Is at
all times able to work. An occasiona
application of Pain Balm keeps away
the pain that she was formerly troub-
led with." For sale by Owl and

THE TRUTH ABOUT IT.
A henprckrd husband always thinks
That lir Is brave, but simply shrinks
From friction in the bosom of
His fumtly in the name of love.
A henpecked husband feels that he
Is Just as good as good can be.
He feels aggrieved because his wife
Don't see the beauty of his Ufe.
Ho knows had he a chance to do
Just as he ilked there'd be on view
A lot of things that would amaze
And stilt tho voice of modest prulse.
He'd for himself create a nam"
That soon would set the land a [lama.
The reason lie don't do it, though.
Is that tils wile says tie is slow.
The henpecked husband's case Is sad.
It's worse 'n that—It's Just too bad.
He's kept from making much of life
By such an overbearing wife.
T'anre are a lot of men who coubl
In their sweet dreams make good—make
good.
But then their wives - ah, there tt
rubs!—
They know the men are common duba.
Contrast.
Do you think she is in love with
him?"
Sure."
How do you know?"
Because she abuses him."
•Well?"
'Well, you Idiot, when she turns
round and treats him well he'll think
that he has discovered an angel, and
every man thinks that an angel Is bis
due and is accordingly looking for her.
It's dead easy."
Knew What It Was.
"ne Is married to Ms third wife."
"Well, 1 have no sympathy for him."
retorted the grouchy old bachelor. "Tl.e
boy who has had no experience may
be excused, but he knew what he wa

Want
Ads.
You will not prosper because of the
bargains your neighbors find In the
stores. Begin to read the ads your-
self.
WANTED—Citizens who have rooms
or houses to rent to place them in

WANTS—Is one that can be depend
ed upon at all times. The News want
ads are safe guides to the successful
filling of the wants of the advertisers
Try it when you need anything or have
a house or room to rent, or anything
to dispose of.
Those people you know who don't
let the "servant problem" blot out
their sunlight have probably merely
learned how to make want advertising
serve them.
If you try to "get along" without
want advertising it will be easier if
you just quit wanting things.
The look before you leap people
read the ads every day.
Want advertising would be too sim-
ple and too cheap if It always brought
about results—but it would go out of
use entirely if It did not usually do
so.
If you are a good want advertiser
you may safely "go up higher." If you
can sell a house or a horse or a piano
or a typewriter through a three line
liv., you can keep a store full of pat-
rons with a proportionate amount of
advertising. *
IF you want to sell your home, buy
a home, or rent a home, advertise in
The News and you will always get
results. *

Special Soap Sale.
Lots of times we complain of the water when it's the fault
of the soap. Most water works all right if you use the right
kind of soap.
I don't mean to say that the soap I sell Is always the best,
for I'm only an ordinary man and sometimes makes mistakes.
One of those mistakes is that I occasionally get hold of the
wrong kind, of soap.
But this time I didn't. I bought a big lot from the firms who
manufactured it. I bought It cheap and you have the benefit
of the bargain If you wish. Displayed in the east window and
on sale all this week as follows:
Palmer's Pure Toilet 5c cake, six cakes for 25c
