Man I- a Failure.
When he has no confidence in him-
self nor his fellow men.
When he values success more than
character or self-respect,
When he does not try to make his
work a little better each day.
When he becomes so absorbed in
his work that he cannot say that li'e
is greater than work.
When he lets a day go by without
making some one happier and more
comfortable.
When he values wealth above
health, self respect and the good op-
inion of others.
When he is so burdened by his
business that he find no time for rest
or recreation.
When his friends like him for what
he has more than for what he is.
Wh^n he knows that he is in the
wrong but is afraid to admit it.
When he loves his own plans and
interests more than humanity,
When he envies others because
they have more ability, talent or
wealth than he has.
When he does not ^are what hap-
pens to his neighbor or to his friend
so long as he is prosperous.
When he is to busy doing that he
has no time for smiles or cheering
words,
Gwinc Back to Dixie.
I'se gwine back to Dixie.
Ho more I'se gwine 'to wander.
My heart's turned back to Dixie.
I can't st?«y here no longer :
I miss de ole plantations,
My home and relations,
My heart's turned back, to Dixie,
And I must go.
CII'^US.
I'se gwine back to Dixie,
I'se gwine back to D xie,
I'se gwine where ihe orange blos-
soms giow,
For I hear the children calling,
And see their sad tears falling,
My heart's turned back to Dixie
and I must go.
I've hoed in fields of cotton,
I've worked upon the river,
I used to think if I got off,
I'd yu bank there never.
But time has changed the old man
His head is bending low; *
My heart turned back to Dixie,
And I must go.
I'm traveling back to Dixie,
My step is slow and feeble ;
I pray the Lord to help me,
And lead me from all evil.
And should my sterngth forsake me,
Thee kind friends come and take
me ,
My heart's turned back to Dixie.
Ana I must go.

Tax Dodging.
There is a law on the statutes
which provides that when a tax pay-
er is about to move from the county
it becomes the duty of the county
treasurer to issue a tax warrant at
once and c< 1 ect the taxes even if the
levv has not been madr, pstima'ing
the amount on the last previous levv.
Every one can see the justice of this
law Every tax payer is interested
in the enforcement of the law for ev-
ery dollar that is evaded by this
method must be paid by those who
remain. County Treasurer J. J. Gay-
man is trying to enforce the law and
is asking the people to helo him by
notifying him when any one is about
to remove without paying their taxes.
He is addressing a letter to each
school officer in the county asking
them to r o-operate with him. Fvery
citizen should take it upon himself
to notify Mr, Gayman when any one
is about to leave without paying their
taxes, They owe it to their schools
as they suffer the worst.—-Chandler
Tribune,
The Perfec' Man.
"There is a man who never drinks,
Nor smokes,nor chews,nor swears :
Who never gambles, never flirts,
And shuns all sinful snares.
--He's paralyzed.
"There is a mar. who never does
Anything that is not right;
His wife can tell just where he is
At morning, no™, and night.
—He's; dead.'
The average man doss'nt think he
is having a good time unless he
makes a fool of himself.
