SOCIALISM.
The city commissioners seem to be all shot
the price oi milk Yet I can see where Kessler
right in wanting to establish a lower price.
Donnelly is right in believing that no authority exists
lor the ordinance. Mayor Ed is right in his willingness i
to see it tried out in the courts.
The Capitol Hill News will keep an eye on that case.
The point is here: If the city can say that the milk
business conies under public service denomination and fix
the price for the farmer, then the farmer can say that the
shoe business comes under public service denomination
and can go into the legislature and fix the price of shoes'
for the dealer.
If this thing ever starts once there will be no end to it. j

Now while everything is in a strain to win the Eu-

out some things that need it badly.
The aim of the war, according to the president, is to

And how about Republicans—what are they doing.'
Are our aims democracy. Armageddon, Socialist, or are we
just out to whip Germany because it had t<> he did. I think
that's it. We do not have to accept the war aims of other
parties—all the aim we need to ptiblish is to fight with thei
other crowd just as hard as we can help until the kaiser
| is safely licked, according to all that President Wilson tle-;
! marnls.
But there are things we can do tor the people and tor
our country as a party independently of the other three
parties and their aims.
1 want the Republican party to adopt a plank in its
; state and congressional platforms in Oklahoma in 1918 de-
j manding the conscription of wealth as a war revenue meas-
ure. Ten per cent or twenty-five per cent of surplus
wealth in the hands of extreme or idle rich would go a
long way in the payment of war expenses.
The Republican party has not been forth a tinker for
.the common people of the country since the death of Mc-
Kinley. It has been a great friend to big business inter-
ests and speculation combinations. It has done a great
deal in the way of social reform. The parcels post law. a
poor man's law, must, of course, be credited to President
Taft.
This war has already initiated industrial reconstruc-
t; in in the idea- set forth in martialing ami mobilizing food
and clothing-—the trying out of principle- that will never
be abandoned.
If the Republican party :-n't \\:-e enough at this time
to work out an industrial platform, at a time when it can
