COME ACROSS, OR THE KAISER WILL
Have you bought that Liberty bond yeti’ If
pot, do so at once. Take an invoice of your money.
If you haven’t enough on hand go to one of the
banks and get a bond on the installment plan.
In any event buy one or several bonds.
Uncle Sam needs the money. He is furnishing
Bioney to our allies so they can deal some effective
blows with our “silver bullets.” He is also using these
0*|!ver bullets" at home to get things in shape for
some hard hits. „ ,
If the world is to be made safe for democracy
the kaiser must be hit right between the eyes and
bit soon. The sooner the better.
Hit him with a Liberty bond. Hit him with as
many as possible. Every bond is a blow at autocracy.
Every bond bought makes democracy safer.
Come across and buy a Liberty bond.
For if you don’t come across the kaiser will. We
have got to stop the madman of Europe. A bond
will help stop him. .. . .
The best place to stop the kaiser and his hordes
b in Europe. If he isn't stopped there he will come
across here. ... t _..
On June IS, when the subscriptions to the Lib-
erty bonds are counted, one of two things is going
to take place. Either Pennsylvania-aV is going to
be happy and Wilhelmstrasse sad, or Wilhelmstrasse
happy and Pennsylvania-av sad.
It's up to you Mr. Ordinary Citizen, which it
Come across now and then the kaiser can’t.
With registration past, America has entered the
<ra of real military strength.
Catherine Breshkovskaya, “grandmother of the
Russian revolution.” for years an exile, is now elected
to high office by Russian votes, while the ex-czar is
a jafl bird. There is more than poetic justice in that.
It must peeve the kaiser a lot to hear that the
Stars and Stripes still fly on the Atlantic.
WHEN A BABY CRIES
tVhile thousands of brave men are dying on the
(bttlefields of Europe, among them Americans from
our own cities and towns, we pursue our daily life

The
great European miaery mass makes but
Bttle impression on us; that is, we feel little concern
pver the matter of men in misery and death.
But when, down in Missouri, a baby is kidnaped,
the attention of a nation is arrested.
And the reason? It is simple. The human heart
it always touched by the appeal of childhood. We
»ay grow callous to everything else, but we can-
not grow callous to the cry of a baby.
Childish prattle has always brought us joy;
Idish tears have always brought us sorrow. It
be so always.
Great armies may march to death—they are just
trades. Bnt when a child is lost—ah, that is some-
thing, else. We are not happy till that child Is safe.
If the three requisitions of genius, the first is
lottl, and the second, soul, and the third, soul.—
Whipple. __
Don’t do anything that’ll please the kaiser.
If you feel that chill 'oming on around the
pedal extremities, try a little dash of patriotism.
KERENSKY.
Every great political upheaval has a way ol
evolving its natural leader. Our revolutionary war
brought forth Washington and Jefferson and their
peers. The French revolution produced its Napoleon,
who made himself master of France and, for a time,
of Europe.
Unless cut down by tuberculosis from which he
is suffering, or suppressed by jealous socialists, or
assassinated by the dark forces of reaction, there is
every indication that in Alexander Kerensky Russia
has produced a first-class leader
He has been tried before this and not fonnd
wanting. A lawyer of Saratoff, he joined with
others in protesting against the manner in which
a famous court trial was conducted. His reward
was to be sentenced by the czar’s bureaucrats to a
prison term which the government feared to carry
out, so popular was the young barrister with the
plain people whose cause he had espoused.
In the present soul-stirring times, as minister
of war, he is endeavoring to restore something like
order, discipline and fighting spirit into a vast army
where chaos tow reigns.
If this eloquent leader Is spared to complete his
task, if the soldiers and the workers and the farmers
will heed him. Russia will do her part in the war for
the liberty of the world. Otherwise, the slavs will
utterly fail their western •Whs and, while fighting
among themselves, will give German and Austrian
bayonets the coveted opportunity of restoring czath
dom to power.
A Paris newapaper says more than one French
ler, looking at the American tmhs arriving at
front, has said, "I don’t see Roosevelt." No,
i, bat be quiet a moment and you ought to be
to hear him.
