Farmers Can be Trusted.
If there ever was a time when a
party should rise above the inspira
lion of p rsonnl politics, that time is
now, the place is the new state Okla-

held by democrats, hu; rather as a
struggle to redeem Oklahoma from
the s'igmatlscn of flask-Hism, which
has b ' n openly rebuked by the ac

help of honest democratic voters
whose concern it Is to release this
state from obnoxious democratic ma-
chine rule, but not to place it under
obnoxious republican machine, rule.
Talk and preach as we will, from ev-
ery platform and paper in the state,
it will be difficult to convince the
needed democratic contingent that a
factional republican can resist his fel-
lows any better than a factional dem-
ocrat can. It is awful hard for a
stream to rise above its source, and it
is a much safer experiment to put
new wine into Old bottles than to re-
verse the situation. *
For t his reason, and because of the
responses tha are coming from all
over the state, we believe the candi-
dacy of John fields offers .the honest
cl izenship of Oklahorn t greater hop.

A great resonsibility will rest, upon
a republican governor of Oklahoma,
should one be elected this year, and
he will need to approac bis work with
a conscientious realization of his du-
ties and obligations. He ought to be
free from factional pressure in his
party in order to better cope with
the broader problems of a wise and
economical state government. We
believe such a, marr is, found iri John
Fields, and that be comes nearer till-
ing the requirements of Lite success-
ful candidate this year titan does any
other man yet mentioned.
_ We are face to face with a tide in
the affairs in Oklahoma voters. If the
repulican party takes it at the fiqod,
the credit for victory and honest gov
eminent will be ours. Nominate John
Fields and let the farmers do the rest.

A Baseball Holiday.
The mayor of El Reno, who is an
enthusiastic baseball sport, issued a
proclamation last Monday afternoon
declaring a holiday for Tuesday after-
noon, that being’the opening of t. e
baseball season on thshome grounds.
El Reno has a good ball team this
year, a new grand stand has been
built, new grounds secured and they
are expecting some guod games.
nightly is proof sufficient that both
the peopie ubd the management are
well pleased.
Mr Proctor, the genial manager,
can re-,1 assured that a hearty we!
come will await him and his excellent
company at i acli ret urning season.
Unclaimed Funds.
The county clerk of Canadian coun-
ty informs the writer the writer that
some of the townships in the county
are very slow in taking and using the
funds that belong to them as the re
suit of the taxes they have levied for
the maintainence of the township. In j
some instances these amounts have!
been allowed to remain unclaimed for
more than a year. Reno township
has more than $2,000 to its credit in
the county treasury, some of it hav-
ing been there for near'y a year
The taxpayers of Reno township
should rot submit to such negligence
on the part of their otticers. If they
know of no ocher use for this money
they could well use it for the improve
ment of their roads. Reno township j ] [
needs road improvement as well as
other townships in the county, and
this fund which is allowed to remain
idle in the treasury, doing no one any j
good, could be used to advantage in j
improving the roads.
