in town Tuesday.
T. 15 Todd, of Shawnee, was a
town visitor Monday.
A. 11 Simpson spent Sunday
with friends in this cit}'.
L. C. Gill, a shoe man of Shaw-
nee was in town Tuesday.
Art Heliker played ball with
Ilarrah at Spencer, Sunday.
T I) Mitchell, a shoe drummer,
of St. Louis was here Wednesday.
M. Morris, a St. Louis shoe
drummer, was in town Wednesday
There is no excuse for the man
without a job. Cotton choppers
are in demand.
Misses Myrtle and Katie Pen-
niugton are guests of their brother
J. Pennington.
J O. Blakeney, cashier of the
Citizens Bank, made a trip to Ok
lahonta City, Monday.
J.W. Hatfield returned Monday
from Chickasha, where he had
gone to attend the funeral of a
sister.
Mrs. Shidler returned to her
home iu Edmond Sunday, accom-
panied by her little grandson, Les-
ter Cash.

Mr, Lewis Fiuloy, of McLoud,
came over for the picnic Saturday
and was tins guest of Sant and
Frank Giles until Monday. He is
expected back soon, for he, like
every one else that conies to Dav-
enport, fell in love with the place.

Mr Gilbert, manager of the
Gloyd Lumber yard at this place,
left for the West Monday, and
“they do say” that he will not re-
turn alone. NeuI Bauum has
charge of the yard during his ab-
sence.
The house of Liberty Johnson,
six miles southwest of McLoud,
was struck by lightning Thursday
evening, June 2. Mr. and Mrs.
Johnson were badly injured; Mrs.
Johnson, especially, being badly
shocked and burned. Air. Johnson
was severely burned on the feet
and limbs. The other members of
the family were only slightly
shocked. The house was badly
shattered, but fortunately did not
take tire.
Died, August Ziegler, at Tecum-
sell, Mav 30ih, at the home of C
T. Shade. August Ziegler was a
brother of L. J Zieg'er and R. F.
Ziegler and was one of the first
settlers of this county. Ho leaves
a wife to mourn his loss, with bis
brothers amt many friends. The
deceased was thirty eight years old.
The funeral services were held at
home of C. T. Shade on Tuesday,
and lie was laid to rest in the Mis-
sion Cemetery. We extend sym-
pathy to the bereaved wife aud
friends.—Bounty Democrat.

ter, Aliss Birdie, went to Norman
Monday, to visit with the family
of C. J. Hale.
The family of J. W. Weaver
returned from Texas Tuesday,
where they had been visiting for
the past month.
George Gillette, the hoy whose
limb was recently amputated, is
now able to be out on the street
on his crutches.
Narrow Escape.
Wednesday morning J. L. Mer-
ritt started out to “stir up” the
dilatory good road committee and
when a few miles northeast of
Shawnee was I brown from his cart
in crossing a ditch caused by the
recent floods in that part, and was
badly hurt, falling on his back
which was permanently injured by
a fall from a building during the
the last big fire in Tecumseh, his
spine was reinjured and his foot,
which caught between the wheel
and shaft was painfully bruised.
If his horse had tun he would have
been seriously, if not fatally, hurt.
As it was he had a narrow escape,
ind will be confined to his bed for
several days.—Tecumseh Standard
