flock of sheep around and near
the church house, the preacher
noticing many of the people spit-
ting on the floor commenced to
rake them, saying: “Brethem
it is not right to profane the
house of God by bringing your
tobacco inside, just leave it on
the door step outside, the dogs
will not touch it and I assure
you the hogs will not eat it.”
An old man in the rear of the
house arose and said in a loud
voice said: “No but the lambs
will.” The preacher had been
using the lambs as an emblem o:
purity and cleanliness. Many
people know that sheep are very
fond of tobacco, especially manu-
factured tobacco.

A certain preacher never left
an opportunity go by wherein he
could rake his congregation on
the use of tobacco. One Sunday
afternoon there was quite a large
Independent Candidate for Prose-
cuting Attorney.
TO THE VOTERS OF THE COUNTY.
In announcing myself as an In
dependent candidate for the of-
fice of County Attorney I desire
to state that I do so irrespective
of party politics. I come before
you as a resident and taxpayer
and one interested in the best
management of the affairs of our
County, and I believe my views
are sufficiently well known to
need no further explanation on
my part.
I believe my old time friends
and acquaintances will know the
motive that actuates me in thus
coming before you, and to those
who do not know me, I simply
wish that you would investigate
the present condition of our coun-
ty, and if, after so doing, you
believe I am the man to improve
said condition, and you can con
sistently support me, I shall fully
appreciate the same and, if elect-
ed, will strive in every way to
fulfill my oath of office and will
see that the laws of our territory
are upheld and enforsed, ever
giving “equal justice to all” and
granting “special privileges to
none.” Yours for law enforce-
ment.
W. H. Springfield.
There seems to be some mis-
take on the part of someone in
the distributing of the prizes
awarded at the Farmers Institute
held at Tecumseh a few weeks
ago. John Ferguson, a boy not
yet 12 years old, went to Shaw-
nee to collect his award for ex-
hibiting the best stalk of com,
but could not find out where he
was to get his premium. The
certificate was there all right
from the secretary of the Insti-
tute. The premium for the tal-
est bunch of blue-stem grass
also went to the wrong man.
