good part of their food; it aleo adda
to their health by quickening the
circalation of the blood. One of the
drat things to supply them with to a
duet bath. Thto should be a box
about three feet square aad one foot
deep, and filled half full of road dust,
or road dust and fine wood ashes
mixed. Anyone who tries to get
eggs in winter and does not try to
supply a dust bath, will get left The
next thing is grit and ground ,dam
and oyster shells. Coal cinders drop-
ped by a locomotive are fine, and I
keep them by mine all the time.
Fine gravel out of the river bed to
good, and should be before them all
the time, for it to the hens’ teeth.
Broken dishes and china is what I use,
ground to about the sixe of whole
wheat, for I can’t get good gravel.
Always keep clean water at hand for
them, and be sure it to clean.
For feed for breakfast take equal
parts of bran, aborts and corn meal,
and scald it, mixing it until it to dry
and cool enough to eat; hens ought
not to have sloppy mashes. Every
other day mix some ground bone,
table scraps and red pepper into the
morning mash. Ft el this as soon
as they can see, and nearly all they
will eat, then let them alone awhile
to do a little bathing, and to lay. At
noon give them one-half of their grain
ration, which should be of oats, one-
quarter, wheat one-half, corn, one-
quarter, and feed i to them in their
straw. This will keep them at work
for about two hours, and they will be
well pleased with their exerc'se.
About an hour and a half before dark
give them all of thto grain that they
will eat up clean, and let them go to
roost. Next morning they will come
off the root happy and ready for
another busy day—and another egg.
This mode of feeding and caring for
a flock of chickens will be to the
owner’s great delight, as well as very
profitable. You must be regular* and
careful, ever on the watch for dis-
ease or anything that is to the disad-
vantage of your flock, then it is a
very pleasant business. Keep that
kind of fowl that pleases you best;
any of them are good enough if well
taken care of.
The above is perhaps a sure plun to
obtain eggs in the winter, but may
be a little exjiensive. And in Okla-

Notice that you pay only for what you
