Change Of Control.
With this issue of the Republi-
can, the paper passes into the con-
trol of. A. W. Clark who will have
full charge of everything.
Mr. Clark has been with the pa-
per for almost a year and is entire-
ly familiar with every detail of the
business. In fact, he has practi
cully had full charge for the last
four months, so our readers can
judge for themselves his nbility to
meet every emergency.
I trust that, the same kind con-
sideration will be shown the new
management that has been accord-
ed me in the last four years and I
cun assure the patrons of the pa-
per that all favors shown will be
reciprocated in the fullest meas-
ure by Mr. Clark.
He lias identified himself with
the town and community, having
built himself a home in the town
and I know will give his best ener-
gies towards the upbuilding and
advancement of this section ot
Woods county.
While I.shall be away from Fair-
view for a time, yet all my inter-
ests and well wishes are with
Fairview and vicinity, so my most,
earnest desire would be to sec the
Republican continue its vvoik in
giving its patrons a good local pa-
per and I fully believe that Mr.
Clark will meet the demand, es-
pecially so if the patrons will give
him the hearty support that. 1ms
been shown me in the past.
In relinquishing the control of
the Republican, I wish to most
heartily thank the patrons of the
paper for past favors and extend
iny most earnest wishes for your
success in whatever the future has
in store for all.
Most Respectfully,
H. P. Cunningham.

To The Subscribers.
Most of the readers of the Re-
publican have received a statement
of their standing on the subscrip-

not answered to such notice, I
wish to say that ns Mr. Clark has
taken charge of the paper it would
be not only fair Out necessary to
remit tho little account at once or
j make satisfactory arrangements
with him.
! As long as 1 had charge of the
paper 1 most willingly waited for

With this issue the Republican
comes out under new management.
Mr. Cunningham remains the pro-
prietor. but its management and
policy will be no longer in his
hands, we having leased the plant
from him for a definite period.
Mr. Cunningham has labored hard
to put out a good paper, and has,
we believe, succeeded in building
up one of tho best, papers in the
county, and if we who are now at
the helm •■an succeed in keeping
the Republican pp to its pas*
standard, wo will led that our el

space to discussing local questions
affecting the growth and pr< eperity

settled, so far as swell questions
can be, for two years at least, while
local questions must in view of the
bright outlook for the develope-

we see a chance to better serve our

The Japanese have at last forced
General St.oessel to surrender Port
Arthur. Its heroic defense and the
determination and courage of the
besiegers marks this as one of tho
great sieges of history. The effect
can hardly fail to be beneficial to
the Japanese cause, as it leaves the
army heretofore engaged before
that fortress free to join tho armies
under Field Marshal Oyama, be-
sides giving Admiral Nogi a chance
lo overhaul his fleet before the
Baltic squadron arrives.
The President has doubtless un-
der consideration important, plans
and policies with regard to the
trusts, with regard to Civil Service
Reform and. in fact, with regard to
improvement of all brandies of the
Government service The tasty*
before him are gigantic. The fa-
bled wonders performed by Her-
cules wore remarkable enough for
his day but were ns child’s play
compared with the ■ complicated
and vexing problems presented to
a " progressive ruler in modern
times.
