that have covered the world.
Oklahoma, the ridiculed of the states,
whose constitution is the easiest
amended, the state wherein the Puri-
tan and Cavalier are meeting on an
equality, may be the chosen spot
where the true movement for making
by law, man and woman equal, should
originate.
I know your organization could eas-
ily visit Oklahoma with all the com-
forts of modern travel, private cars
and specials, which would be putting
thepi to good use. Our climate in
May, is ideal. This little city is near
the center of an area described by a
body of French surgeons in 1*98, in
their report, after visiting every sec-
tion of the world, in the following lan-
guage: “In the United States of Amer-
ica, we found a place the like of which
docs not exist in the world. Oil the
100th. degree of west longitude, mid
way between the Red River, in Texas
and the Arkansas River, in Kansas,
In the area covered by one hundred
miles in every direction, the bacilli
of tuberculosis does not nor cannot
exist." That report was true then; it
is true now.
Whatever I can do to help this
movement is cheerfully promised. My
position in the state is very bumble
a farmer and lawyer, holding no office
nor aspiring to any. Our party (Dem-
ocratic) has placed the work of the
central committee in the hands of an
executive committee oi five of which
1 have the honor to be one, and have a
close acquaintance with ail our pub-
lic men and many favor suffrage—par-
ticularly Senator Owen, who tried to
have it Incorporated in the constitu-
tion.
If Oklahoma grants suffrage, the ad-
joining states, Texas, Arkansas, Kan
sas, and the soon-to-be State of New
Mexico, will follow suit, as they have
in the bank guaranty initiated in Ok
lahonia.
Begging pardon for this Infliction up
on your time and patience, I am,
Sincerely yours,
D. P. MARUM.
