CURE INSTEAD OF ARREST
IS NEED OF DRUG ADDICTS
(By Dr. A. R. Lewis State Health
Commissioner.)
Drug addicts for the most part
are sick people and should be sent
to an institution for treatment rather
than arrested and sent to jail.

"dope" useres have innocently ac-
quired the habit and therefore nre

diets. It is probable that these would
make special rates for treatment of
people sent by the state.
Of course persons who could afford
to pay would not be treated nt the
state's expense. But this arrange-
ment would give all the opportunity
to be treated and would make possible
the enforcement of a proposed law
whiih requires that "all persons ar-
rested and found to be users shall
take treatment."
