armistice and came out of it with
a whole skin sustaining but one very
sight wound so slight ln fact tha.
it didn't lay him up at all. After he
takes a spell of rest Fred will be
back with the NEWS at the old Job.

old timers nnd for many years oper-
ator of a photograph studio here

fession again after being out of the
game for thieo or four years. Mr.

Eighteen Per Cent Per Annum
Everybody who hasn't tlnished
paying his 1918 taxes is now paying
penalty for his delinquency at tho
rate of eighteen per cent per annum.
The last half of last year's tax pro-
viding the first halt was paid on
time wbb duo June the ICth. Ev-
ery day that one delays now the
penalty grows larger. Thn fpllnw
who failed to pay the first half whem
the time was up has been paying
penalty for quite a while.
County Treasurer Beaty says that
the office is being besieged by eager
taxpayers eager to lay their money
on the county's counter.

Atoka camo down here with an un-
defeated base ball team last Friday
evening It is said cocksuro of adding
another scalp to her bolt. Tho four
local teams smelled a mouso and got
thflr heads together with tho result
that a picked team was taken from
tnu four locals and the visitors wero
giten a shut out getting only ono
man as far as tho secpnd sack. Tho
wire was five and nothing.

Atoka team they wore not satisfied
and tried the locals again Tuesday of
this week with even more disastrous
results tho score being even to noth-
ing In favor of tho locals.

Editor U. F. Story of the Durant
Democrat has decided on a vacation
of several weeks which ho says ho
needs badly. During his absence
his editorial duties will be handled
by Iteedy Jennings who was former-
ly associated with the paper.
To Reorganize old Guard
As soon as tho thirty-sixth divis-
ion Is mustered out of the service
tho state military authorities plan
to reorganize tho old guard regiment
which was changed to the 142nd.
Infantry regiment of the thirty-sixth
division.

of grading and dragging the dirt
streets of the city and a decided Im-
provement is noted. Cale street

streets of the city .
