Special Salo
of all
Uililnorr.
Ilryan county must furnish LM1 selei-tod men this month
for the army including four calls reciu'd in rapid succession
uj) to noon Friday ami other calls that may come any day may
run the number still higher.
The most recent call was received before noon today (Fri-
day) for -4 li men to go to Fort Kiley. Kansas on or about May
2i" with a supplemental call for three men for special Induc-
tion into the service who tuny go to Washington. 1). t.
There was a call Wednesday for 11' men to lie sent away on
or about May 22 and the call received before that was 151 men
to go to Camp Travis between the U.'ith anil 3ith of the month.
.In di:e Parker's Statement.
"The calls for men to be sent to the training camps are
coming with such rapidity and for so many men. that it clear-
ly indicates that ere long all men in Class. One will be entrain-
ed for the training camps.
"Therefore men who are in Class One should from this
time on arrange their business affairs. make their plans and
get ready to go.
"When the order conies to the hoard to entrain a certain
number of men that order MUST HK COM I'M HI) WITH and
the board has to furnish the men;' and while it is true that
most of our young men in this county in Class One and who
-ire subject to be sent to the training e.unps are farming and
are working industriously on the farms and while the hoard
wants to hold these men off as long as it can. at the same
time the board cannot comply with the orders of the War De-
partment which are to furnish the men for the training
ramps and at the same time defer the men who are to he fur-
nished. "It behooves the farmers and the people of Hryan county
generally to put forth every energy and effort to pro-
cure all the help they can and to redouble their efforts in
working on the farms themselves.
"This is the inot critical period of the war to the Ameri-
can people and the Allies and in order to furnish the men
needed on the fighting front we are bound to get our men in
vast numlers at once.
