Superintendent McDonald of the
State Fish Ilatihery between llluo
rher and Caddo Is authority for tho
statement that the State will lm-
medjately establish a game preserve
111 rnnnectlon with the hatchery
utililng In this way the large block
of bind adjoining which it was In-
tended to eiiilp is n country club
by Durant and ('ndiln people which
projeit fell through and which prop-
el ty the Slate bought for this pur-
pose. Among the game to be raised will
be ilier Mexican blue quail buffalo
pheasant grouse and prairie chick-
etu with other species; and at Mat-
ed Ititenals after the propagation
litis progressed sufficiently numbers
of the Individual birds will be re-
leased In different sections where
game Is scarce.
When the fish hatchery was first
established It was a frequent sight
to see flocks of wild ducks and
geese alight on tho lakes to feed
nnd nt that time the hunters wero
encouiagod to shoot them off tho
ponds as they were not wanted.
Some time ago Oowrnnr Williams
procured two very fine Mallards and
a (Ireenheart which have been rais
ed on the cropplo pond and which
have become very tame and will
come to Mr. McDonald's call and
feed at his feet. Attracted by tho
Mallards scores of wild ducks now
alight on tho ponds. Tho last Leg-
islature passed n bill making It a
tfiOO flno to shoot on tho hatchery
premises nnd tho result of no gun-
ning on the premises Is that the
wild ducks that light on tho ponds
nro gen'lc enough that ono may

frightening them awjy
' Among the varieties of! ilucks to
bo propagated will bo Mallards

and several others.
Mr. McDonald the superintend-
ent has made the rtislng ot fish
and eamo bis lite work and can tell
the average hunter and nimrod a
thousand things about fish and game

Federal Ituihllng Contractor Has

Knlirely So.
Murh objection Is being voiced In
tho city this week at what looks like
an almost complete blockading of
Kvergreen street by tho contractor
for tho new Federal building to be
erected nt Kvergreen nnd Third.
Small stones used In concrete
work have been piled on the pave
ment barely leaving room for one
vehicle to pass and within the last
few davs sand has been dumped on
tho wnlk lending from the court
house to tho present port office so
as to completely cover It up and
make It necessary for pedestrians to
either go around out of the way or
wade through tho sand. The office
has been built right nt the end of
the lot. right on the walk leaving a
small runway between It and tho
blacksmith shop nearby for passage.
It is pointed out that theie ap-
pears to bo ample room on the back
of tho lot or In the alley between
tho M. K. church and the tot for tho
piling of material without obstruct
ing a public Highway ami peopie
who pass that way of necessity are
quito Incensed that an alley snnum
bo kept open nt trie expense oi a
paved street nnd a sidewalk.
Whether or not It Is necessary to
the proper handling of tho material
to blockade this street tho NEWS
does not undertake to say. It does
look rather odd however that ono
must tlo up traffic to build a small
building In Durant when In every
city In tho world skyscrapers nro
erected on lots not an Inch largor
than the dimensions of tho building
without blockading the streets.
